#33 Storvatnet, Lofoten.

The 5 days car rental didn't got off to a great start as we suffered 2 incidents with the car on the very first day; a dead battery and getting stuck in a ditch. Both times we were aided by really helpful Norwegians who just came along the way, of which one hosted us for the night. Unfortunately we ran out of luck when we suffered a flat tire on the last day while en route to return the car.

From my gear list below, traveling light is obviously my top priority:
Canon 450D
Tokina 11-16mm f2.8
Canon 50mm f1.8
Sirui T1204X CF Tripod
Lee GND Filters

We each carried a 12+kg mainpack and a daypack. Not too bad as we had trained a bit over the past year through running/walking 7+km about twice a week.
Even brought a Macbook Air so I could still work light along the trip. Cannot keep on $$ out but no $$ in right? :)

And thanks for visiting!!

great photos. i'm also a GND user but nothing close to your work, and of cos there was once i spent on singh-ray but was so clumpsy that i dirtied them on a single trip, and therefore stick to those who are well abused and affordably replaced. so which stop do u most often used, and do you stack your GND filters?

hi zoosh, thanks for the compliments, you're being too humble. i've read your thread on Backpacking Photographers before, found it really useful and informative! thanks for sharing.

i actually tried hitech filters before as they are touted by many to be as neutral as lee but much cheaper. contrary to the claims, i experienced magenta cast with them and left with no choice but to turn to lee in the end. maybe it's got to do with my cam or i got a lemon since so many others can't be wrong i guess.

as it turns up, first causality of the trip goes to one of the filter which suffered a 3mm corner chip. ouch...

most commonly used would be the 0.6 & 0.9 as many mentioned but 0.3 is not as useless as many believed and of course, stacking is unavoidable as you may have expected.

#34 Utdalsvatnet, Lofoten
Fishes are aplenty in lakes like Utdalsvatnet and it's a common sight to see locals barbequing their catch with a small bonfires on the spot.

#35 Selfjorden, Lofoten.

One of the most under-rated fjord of Norway in my opinion. Here, you will not see any ferries carrying shiploads of tourists intruding on the peaceful nature, unlike those in southern Norway.

not really, i'm a snapshot shooter and really can't handle well with GND, as such i dun usually stack filters. of cos, that may explain why i dun get good transitions many times. that is probably another set of skills that can only come with personal experience and clean filters (if one stacks).

did u buy your lee's from cathay or did you import? i might consider getting a set of 0.6 and 0.45.

Thanks bro, it sure is a tough but rewarding and life-changing trip. :)

Thanks for thinking so highly of this thread bro, but I'll prefer to reserve that title to the many threads out there that's as good if not better. Appreciated and hope you enjoy the ride. :D

i see.. i only do stacking if shooting from tripod or if the situation requires. For snapshots, I do shoot with single GND sometimes (results hit & miss generally) though attracting weird looks from people around me.. only saw 1 guy doing the same as me (do look a bit funny from a 3rd person pov.. that explains the weird looks from others) before and that was in Prague. Keeping filters clean is a pain in the ass really, especially after from beach.

Got it from cathay last time, heard TK have them too.

Beneath the melting snow of the snow capped mountains hides an array of icy clear water streams, the source of the mirror lakes congregated at the foot of the mountains.
