Canon UK Releases 1.2.5 Firmware for 7D

Came across this today. Canon UK has release firmware 1.2.5 for the 7D. Apparently it fixes quite a few bugs related to large CF cards (32GB and larger). You can get more details here: http://5dmark2.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/eos-7d-firmware-update-1-2-5/ A word of caution. Firmware update...

    Is this normal for D700?

This is looking like some kind of banding problem on the sensor. As there is no wholesale report of banding on D700, I tend to think this is a sensor hardware defect and not a firmware problem. Shooting at 6400 should not get you this level of banding. The customer service person is trying to...

Need advise? Buying 60D or 7D

Agreed. Every gram counts when you are doing some serious tramping. My 7D has done some serious tramping but without the tripod ! In hindsight, I probably should have carried the tripod along ... http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=825595

Need advise? Buying 60D or 7D

I'm 7D user ... IMHO Going from a D700 to 7D is a "downgrade" in a number of areas from a still photography perspective. The D700 has better AF system, high ISO performance and a full frame sensor. On the other hand, 7D has better frame rate and video and is quite a bit lighter than the D700...

    Different Memory Card

The original poster is talking about CF cards not SD cards. CF cards are rated by xx MB/s not by class. As is the norm, there is no industry verification on the xx/MB claim by CF maker. Sandisk are usually quite good/accurate with their claim of speed. 30MB/s is more than enought for 1080P...

    Canon EF-S 15-85mm

Check the manual is usually the best policy. Anyway, For 7D, it is on page 76 of the manual on how to set peripheral illumination correction. On the 7D, the default is "enabled".

    error code 01

The EFS 17-85mm is known to be somewhat flaky (especially the early batches). There have been nemerous problems reported on this lens: 1) USM motor went bad (can only autofocus at 17mm and no where else) 2) Stuck diaphram resulted in Err 01 3) Broken electrical wire within the lens causing Err...

    Canon price increase?

The increase of prices in the US is mainly due to the worsening exchange rate between USD/JPY. This may or may not affect other countries as the currency exchange rate plays a part in local pricing. The cynics will say that when the local exchange rate goes up the prices never come down but...

Need advise? Buying 60D or 7D

60D has weather sealing too. Do a Google search on the sealing diagram released by Canon. In fact, the sealing looks more extensive than the 40D. As for the 7D, Canon did make a statement about it is as well sealed as the orginal EOS 1N (film camera)

    Canon EF-S 15-85mm

Did you have a 7D or 60D and shoot JPEG? The reason I ask is the 60D and 7D automatically correct for vignetting in camera if you shoot JPEG using the 15-85mm. If you shoot RAW, vignetting can be corrected automatically using Canon's DPP software.

    Canon EF-S 15-85mm

I moved from the 17-85mm to the 15-85mm and I am happy with the results. The sharpness, contrast and colour are miles better than the 17-85mm. As others have said. the downside is the slow aperture and price. This lens will be a killer if it has a constant aperture of F4. ;)
