I'll be in Singapore at the end of September.
What would be a good shop to buy ZF100/2 and ZF35/2?
Any idea of the prices?
Do they come with an international waranty of 1 or 2 years?
Thank you for replying.
Cheers:)

Claude
orient pacific at simlim level 5. thats the only shop you should go to in sim lim square. any other shop there's probably hard to trust.

they offer 1 year shop warranty. but there's this piece of paper in japanese in the boxes when you purchase that says probably 2 years warranty or something but not sure whether its international

Orient Pacific? Do you mean Orient Photo on Sim Lim Square level 6?

Anyway, 100 f2 ZF is currently out-of-stock at OP.

yeah i do.

one thing abt ZF lenses is that since its fully manual.. it probably wont fail at all.. given the quality checks/screens before the product's allowed on the market. built like a tank.

I agree with psychobiologist!
ZF is fully manual, no electronic circuit at all, therefore, I think it's never fail :)

depending on the cam body u r using, should consider getting a split screen...or if u r more extreme like me, change system...I am seriously thinking of changing to Nikon system to fully utilise my ZF lenses...;p

I think Zeiss do HAVE electronic circuit. I quote from the latest ZE press release:

Carl Zeiss is expanding its successful line of SLR lenses: ZE lenses with EF bayonet for all analog and digital EOS camera models. As with all EF lenses, the new ZE lenses from Carl Zeiss transfer all information exclusively via electronic contacts. This means that all exposure modes such as programmed auto exposure, shutter priority, aperture priority and manual setting are supported.

Hence, by extrapolation, there would be electronic contacts and circuits in the other Zeiss MF SLR lenses as well. :)

It is just a matter of time they incooperate Canon mount into their range. I predicted this long ago.

Good for Canon users. But bad for Nikon users.

Zeiss was unable to do EOS in 2006 cos Canon was unwilling to disclose the electronic circuity. The thinking has clearly changed at Canon and at Zeiss.

With Zeiss going down this electronic route, there's nothing to stop Zeiss offering a G-type Nikon ZF and utilise full Nikon DSLR controls.

I can imagine ZF users are left holding AIS-mount ZFs while G-types are introduced. 2nd-hand value will :thumbsd:

May I know do you mind explaining the difference?

Thanks

ZF are F-mount AIS. The metering & functionality are restricted to D300 & above. ( And the DSLR functions are half-cripped, due to lack of electronic information like distance.)

F -mount G-type has no aperture ring with full functionality from D40 to D3. Its a full electronic F-mount, unlike the 50year old AIS method.

So G-type ZF coming anytime soon?

If the G-type version does come out, I think the price of AIS-type may drop but not a lot as it can be used on AI and later film SLRs and modern DSLRs (some without metering). But if they do add AF to the G-type then it may be a different story.

current ZF become collector status if no more AIS versions ? I certainly hope so.:)

Photobum : any predictions on a digital nikon rangefinder ?

Oops.... I just bought my 40D last week......... I think I will just strain my eye more to get the focus correct.... :p

Now seriously considering getting a prime lens, 50/1.4 is tempting..:p

zeiss only have electronic circuitry in the ZE mount type, probably to control the aperture, not too sure abt AF, maybe not.

other mounts.. ZF, ZK.. ZM.. no electronics
