Har? Isn't posting a Leica image comparing? And if we don't compare, how do we make an assesment? Making comparisions is part and parcel of life for people all over the world, not a Singaporean thing.

Yes, you are right.

In Burma, certain tribal women compare who has the longest neck. And in Africa, certain tribal men compare who can jump over a herd of cattle without tripping or falling.

In Singapore, we compare materialistic objects, such as our houses, cars, hi-fi equipment, cameras and lenses. Reason being we can never match up the rest of the world in term of our neck length or jump height, so we compare what we can buy with money (which some Singaporeans seem to have plenty of it).

Hello everyone...I am a first time poster on the ZF thread...I find the thread informative and humorous...

I use a D300 and thinking of getting either a 25 or a 28 for street scenes and landscape photos...I noticed that half of the members own 25s and the other half 28s...I'm leaning towards the 28 but would like to hear the pros and cons of both from the members...also some photos would help too...

at 1.5x crop, both are abt 38 to 42mm, very limiting for landscapes, a little short for street shooting. That aside, 25mm effective focal length is 26mm, v close to 28mm F2. So my pick is 28 for its F2.

When I mentioned landscapes, I didn't mean sweeping vistas but a lens that would capture a house on a farm without the distortion that wide angles introduce. Also is the 28 sharper than the 25 or are they both sharp?

Any idea if the ZF18 is on sales locally and the price?

After reading thru the thread, can I conclude that only J316 and OP sell Zeiss lens? Wanna go look see...

I don't think its out of the factory yet cos in Japan still can't pre-order.

Well, it's certainly out in the U.S.

Now... let me eat my own words.

We can compare to the rest of the world in table tennis.

And thank God.... I am still alive. My cameras and ZF lenses are still sitting comfortably inside the dry cabinets. My wife is minding her own business. The friendly neighbourhood 'Garang guni man' is buying my old newspapers and magazines still (that's all he could get from me).

TK Foto also sells CZ lenses...:)

J316 sells local sets whereas Op sells grey sets...

Yes, its' definitely out. I was at J316 and had a chat with Sam on it. He was asking if he should order one for me!

btw, when r we having the Zeiss poison session...I had been waiting for it till my neck long long liao...;)

:) Thanx FortyNine for your comments on the 25 vs 28...I guess everyone else went to Beijing to go see superfish win the 8 gold medals...I was hoping for more responses...:(

I think the 28mm is the newest kid on the block . And few I know hv both 25 and 28 cos too close in focal length. Flickr show lots of 25 2.8 pics. If u like it, 28mm f2 is tested to be slightly better in quality ( and costs 30% more ).

sorry new kid is now 18mm

28F2 cost more due to the floating galss element design...:)

And Zeiss design the price to "float" upwards with the element as well :bsmilie:

I realised every new ZF released has been more expensive than the last one. My bank book already bled dry...

haha, but the ZF prices had dropped compared to when they were originally launched in 2007 right?

that's cos our Sing dollar is stronger, not because the Zeiss factory lowered prices.
and last month, Sing dollar has weakened dramatically.
