Sorry....I did not come from a family of teachers, but I do know that "photoshopped" does not exist in the dictionary.:)

Yes, the word 'photoshopped' does appear in an actual printed dictionary known as the Mo' Urban Dictionary. Check it out here.

You can purchase the dictionary here.

haha...ZF discussion becoming a grammar discussion...:bsmilie:

just wonder why no 21mm f/2.8. thought it will model after contax carl zeiss 21mm f/2.8.
18mm is good provided the distortion is not too much!:)

heh.. from the looks of the sample photo on zeiss' site, it looks distorted, but short of being a FE. probably becos the photog was shooting upwards.

problem is dat all these wonderful zeiss lens effects can only be seen on film or D3 (currently).. i would love to try out the 18mm when it is available.

Hi, may I know how much is a ZF 50mm f1.4 selling?

Thanks

can see from Buy&Sell that you are actively looking for this lens.
from personal opinion, this is not really an excellent lens in the ZF series, though it performs good from minimum focus till about 1-1.2m.
if budget is not a concern, i recommend ZF 50/2 makro instead.

Quite true, same comments I got from other clubsnappers. I guess I will get the voigtlander 58mm f1.4 instead. Thanks for the advise.

Cheers:D

Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.4 ZF

Voigtlander 58mm f1.4

To compare skin texture and tonality of Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 with Carl Zeiss 50 f1.4 ZF, take notice that the portraits from the Carl Zeiss is harsh and blotchy, whereas the Voigtlander is soft and smooth.

bro, did u take the second pic? was any PP done? At least for mine, there isn't any except for some exposure, levels and curves adjustments. Also, the comparison isnt scientific as the subjects, lighting, camera etc might be different. My portraits are poor could be due to me being a noob rather than the lens.

AFAIK, both CZ and Voigtlander are made by Cosina now, would there be such a difference in quality?

just my 2cts worth. :)

I know they were made by Cosina, BUT the coating used are very different. The coating used on this Voigtlander lens is very similar to some of Leica's formula. I have the opportunity to look at some portraits taken with this same Voigtlander lens, and all I can say is the end-result is very similar to the one above. It is a shame that I don't have any to share, and therefore, have to 'borrow' one from the Voigtlander thread instead.

Anyway, this photo was shot by fellow CSer 'digitalxd1', who also uses Carl Zeiss ZF lenses (piseh.... my sincere apology to digitalxd1 for using your photo as I didn't have one available to compare with).

To be fair to the Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.4 ZF lens, the DIGIC image processor in Canon DSLRs (which I assume you are using one) have the tendency to oversharpen images. From my understanding, digitalxd1 uses a Nikon D3.

its not 40D oversharpening. 1dMkII and D300 owners also report harshness with ZF501.4. The Voigt has seen outstanding reviews, given its not T* coated yet deliver ZF results. Possibly Cosina copy formula from Zeiss given ZF501.4 was released in 2006 from same factory :). Maybe Cosina will start Voigt SLII AIS 35 1.4 and others and give ZF a run for the money!

The recent Voigtlander lenses from Cosina are very, very good. From my understanding, both lenses came out from the same factory but different production line. Quality control is different too. The tolerance from the Carl Zeiss line is less, thus additional care is needed to produce these lenses. That's why, Carl Zeiss lenses cost so much more. The amount spend in marketing their lenses is higher also.

By the way, my Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.4 ZF works extremely well with a Fuji S5 Pro. I already PM'ed my findings to 'Coolsigg'. The camera has got plenty to do with the results.

thanks for the info bro...maybe its time for me to switch system to Nikon... :)
