Zeiss 35mm distagon 1.4 zm

again, my subjective opinion

- it is sharper than the FLE. there is more distinct micro contrast and rendering of detail, even close up
- the bokeh is nicer, not as harsh as the FLE, which is sometimes known of a bit of a messy defocus. I could also be biased.
- lens renders with similarly high contrast to the FLE

for what it is worth, i also own the 35 double aspherical, or AA lens. And while the AA has more CA in its images owning to a much older design, it is noticeably sharper than the zeiss still.

looking forward to putting this lens through it's paces this week. it's a must buy in my opinion, but if you prefer Leica branded stuff, or a lens with a smaller footprint, then definitely not for you.

there is some measure of cyan cast when it is used uncoded, which is what i do, but on an absolute raw performance basis, shooting in raw, it's a brilliant piece of kit. i plan to use it as my sole lens for the rest of this year.

Oh man, zeiss "pop"!!!

I'm waiting for the CV 35mm f/1.7 Ultron. I owned the ltm version once, and it was a favorite of mine. Will see how it compares to this one when it is out.

Thanks for the pictures and quick review,
The pop is really apparent here! This is gonna give the FLE a run for their money, especially when prices soften in time to come

Just curious, how much did you all spend, for those who purchased the lens in singapore

I think it's fair to say that this lens is optically stellar…
I just wonder about the ergonomics of it and whether it is as unwieldy as the published dimensions suggest. Would the two pioneer owners of this lens care to comment based on their own usage of this lens in real life?

i think with respect to the Leica 75/1.4, the 50/0.95, the 50/1.0 E58, the 35/1.4 Pre-Asph with flower hood, the 35 FLE with the square hood, 28/2.8 or 28/2.0 with hood. It's about the same or less viewfinder blockage. The zeiss doesn't come with the hood, so take note.

The lens is considerably lighter than it looks, balances well, matches well, ergonomics are pretty solid for actual shooting. I might have some difficulty photographing stuff within the 1-2m distance since it does block the finder, but who cares. Don't like don't buy lor...

all at iso 3200, f/1.4, 1/90s thereabouts. very dark in here. lens performs splendidly.

Thanks recap for the mini review and for the amazing images.

what is the min focus distance? 0.7m or 1m?

Impressive performance, but the size and finder obstruction remains painful (to my opinion)
