from my experience, it is usually those PnS cams that are giving problems. I always have to nicely tell them not to use flash when taking sports or animal photography.... but usually they don't care anything you said. Those with DSLR cams and big gears usually know how to behave in the sporting arena.:think:

dont worry about that, the volunteer photographers have been issued the Canon 7D + EF 70-200mm. whether they can use effectively depends on just how quick they are to learn from their mistakes. I really hope they have recce the places they are supposed to shoot the event.

a lot of the places the F/2.8 is barely cutting it and even worse if the users scared to go above iso 1600.

sports photography is not just the gear, but when and where to use the gears as well as what to do if in the siuation where gear is insufficient. In short, its the experience that counts and i am chalking up the experience points in that area...

eh? i'm not receiving my 7d and 70-200mm. the last time i checked, which was abt march. seems to point that the equipments used are our own.:think: when did they change it

There's different group of volunteer photographers for YOG.

1 group is shooting purely at field of play with SPH while another group (you) is shooting for Photoscape project.

there was a 2 stage selection for the YOG-SPH side. Only a handful made it through but get this, they wont be covering sports like Gymnastics/Taekwondo and so on as far as i know. Canon will provide gears for the photographers whose dslr system is insufficient for an event of this size..

Dont know the selection for you guys but if you are the youth photographers, chances are attached to a single athelete and will follow where he/she go as well as shoot only when the athelete plays. So do you know which athelete you are attached to?

Out of the 100+ Young Photographers, only 30 has the chance to shoot at field of play of their athletes assigned plus additional athletes which their team is assigned to.

Btw, one young photographer is assigned more than a single athlete.

In my experience, best not to attached to multiple atheletes or even multiple venue to avoid a lot of the stress involved. I can say a lot on this subject but if want to try, feel free to try but make sure the option to stick to one athelete/one location remains open.

This is not the case as the grouping and all has been settled but each young photographer is attached to a particular NOC and one NOC can be participating in different sports.

Bottomline, can we use our DSLRs in YOG events (for non-commercial purposes obviously)? I've tickets for one of their events and I'm on the verge of renting f2.8 telezoom for it.

It will be a great bummer if DSLRs are banned by default cause it looks "professional".

Wondering why no one is discussing YOG event as an opportunity for photoshoot? Any restrictions to take photos? Is anyone going?

What are the best venues to shoot?

Just got a direct reply...ticket holders are not allowed to use DSLR within the competition venue. exact wording is as follows,

"......regarding the use of DSLR cameras. We regret to inform you that DSLR cameras are not allowed in the Singapore 2010 competition venues. You may take personal photos inside the venue but professional photography, camera videoing or any recordable devices, in any forms of visuals or audio are strictly prohibited. Please note that flash photography is strictly prohibited once competition is in progress on the Field of Play."

but i am guessing many will try to bring in anyway eg. from the number of gymnastics tickets chopped up.

if you want the exact setting for sport halls and other venues can drop me a PM if you want to try sport shooting since you are there anyway just take note of the no "broadcasting" part which should have been covered in the briefing.

I just collected my Equestrian tickets, going with my son and bringing my 40D with 55-250mm.
Shoot or don't shoot nevermind just go and enjoy this once in a lifetime event.

$80 ticket for the opening ceremony is quite steep in IMHO.

I would rather go for the Class 95FM RETROLICIOUS Concert! Catch Rick Astley, Debbie Gibson and Johnny Hates Jazz.
