moral of the story is:

the food is better when you're eating where the big boss eats. other than that, expect sub-standard food. food elsewhere in the YOG served by SFI is wayyy better because of WHO it's being served to

Perhaps that is the general attitude of these cookhouses. Different kind of food served at different tables. :thumbsd:

I meant.. the ST/Stomp/Blog/whatever articles shows the same ONE picture only.. they should take 10 different sets instead of 1 set which maybe isolate case.

if say, the meal consist of chicken meat.. surely someone will get the drumstick/thigh while another get the breast right? so the guy with breast take the picture and post it and say, what sub-standard meals while the other who got the drumstick/thigh says Oishi!!..

I hope that picture is an isolated meal. $5.5million is taxpayer's money from u & me. (unless the whole YOG budget is used from some other coffers) SFI should have received a budget for per meal served to volunteers & VIPs.

I would like to see what is served on the other table that is thrown away daily & u guys can moan about the poor kids suffering elsewhere.

At least they are mending it now. :thumbsup:

i really wonder if other organising countries will do the same... but remember , this is not Olympic.. it is Youth Olympic... so perhaps we cannot get a apple to apple comparison...

imagine cost of the meal in question is $2, food, fruit, water & transport of the food (per serving).

$2 x 3 meals x 15 days x 7000 volunteers = $630,000

Profit is $5,500,000 - $630, 000 = $4,870,000:bigeyes::bigeyes:

so are you saying that for past ndp parade, if i'm not wrong, they give mcdonald/kfc meals for the people helping out that everyone seems to be quite happy with...

mcdonald/kfc meals no one seems to be making noise, but needless to say, the nutritional value is overdone - i.e. way too many calories and way too unhealthy. :bsmilie:

i don't believe that people actually bother about the "basic nutritional value". if that is the case, no one will eat chicken rice. no one will eat char kway teow. no one will eat a lot of things - 50% or more of singapore standard hawker/food court fare is in no way nutritionally balanced.

Surely u dun expect the food for the volunteers to be on par or anywhere as close to that of the athletes'??

if you ask the officials or authorities, they might just ask you back: So what did you expect? Sushi and kebab for the volunteers also? That's why those guys are called v.o.l.u.n.t.e.e.r.s. Who cares much about them?

But foreign athletes? WOOOHHHH, they are more VIP that our foreign talents k!!

Singapore needs to make herself be No.1 in all such events like YOG. This being the first for us, they can't screw up. Not even with the food. So of course, you'd expect royal meals for the athletes.

My friend was joking to me, how come you didn't watch the YOG opening? I said I didn't care about YOG. She then told me, you should at least see how in the elaborate setup of fireworks and what-not, our money (tax-payers) goes up in flames mah!! Haha...

It is just unfortunate that the world is so much smaller with the Internet. Had the guy didn't post a pic of his food, it will all be hush hush. Now that it's out in the open, SFI had to say Oh oh... This is serious. We will look into it.

If you ask me, I'd say it's craps. You don't need any reminders to "look into the matter". They obviously dun care about the lowly people right from the start. Now, they''ll pretend, Oh... We will "look into the matter".

The society in Singapore is such that when you are up there, you get the good stuffs. When you are a nobody, don't complain too much. Nothing new, like I said. So pls dun be surprised.

Yup, packet rice, which to be fair wasn't that bad; together with the occasional KFC meals.

that is possibly a valid point, but i must say that the initial complaint that sparked off everything that followed was more to do with food quality than anything else.

i think generally the food still can eat... but, i also think they can and should offer something better... or course not the same level as what the village is offering, but better than just long beans...

i do think that generally people are taking on a too political view on the YOG issue. Since Singapore has already decide to host it, then why not support it and see it thru? How will all these whining and complaining reflect on ourselves in the eyes of the foreigners?

get used to it, at least they are serving you food, althou the quality of food can definitely be improved. how can you expect the athletes to be taking the same food as volunteers? there is nth such as fairness in this world... if there are, there wouldnt be officers specs and man in the army... each of them command different prestige and respect thou they are all NSF!
