yes, we don't want that too... i don't think anyone here is against the athletes.

we just don't like to see double standards... it has nothing to do with "lack of appreciation", "why don't u take a look at african starving people", "food of foreign workers"... nothing to do with all that..

in fact yog authority should show appreciation to the volunteers... even for those who are forced to volunteered. period.

In army, I heard my officer said the army pay $5 for 1 packet of food when we were out in the field for training.

If this is true, then $3 is really peanut. Haven't taken into account of the cost of logistic that involves in the transfer of food. :sweat:

The 5.5mil contract (which the food packet in question came from) only covers for 7000 people, which includes athletes, officials and volunteers.

Yes, it would be a lot more than $3.

Which makes it even worse. Because if I go tabo econo-veg-rice in the hawker center or coffeeshop, I can get a lot more with $3 than what we see in the packet.

I think the food provided for volunteers should be on par to that of participants. Given that kind of food is really a disgrace. :angry:

I don't think we are talking about getting the same food as the athletes. But there should be a minimum level of quality. Sure, this is probably an isolated case, but still, it is irresponsible to provide such kind of food to the volunteers, they are not respecting the people who help out.

It's their choice to help out and they can choose not to volunteer or back out, but that's not the point. People always say that, and look what our trains are like. Always can choose whether to board, will never get stranded on the platform because our trains can pack 1600 people and our 1400 people merely eat too much and are too fat and that's why they complain cannot fit into the trains. We should treat the volunteers with more respect, and not consider them as sai kang warriors or dogs or slaves.

We should also not compare them to Africans. That is to discriminate against Africans, and then at another level, discriminating against our volunteers.

Then again, when you read some comments here from many Clubsnappers on those who get scammed at several local camera shops in Sim Lim or Lucky Plaza: "nobody asked you to buy from that shop after they quote you that price"

Double standards, cause a scam is still a scam, whether you agreed to buy at that price or not........it is still not correct to sell someone a sgd 600 lens for sgd 1200

Depends on point of view. To someone from another place where they are destitute, this is good food.
In our time, we normally don't complain about such things.
But Gen Y is a bit more spoiled. Maids serve them at home, aircon bedrooms, Parents fetch in cars to school, go to Europe for school holidays, expect parents to buy them a house when they grow up ( and car as well)....
So a little insignificant thing like less delicious packet food - make a big fuss on-line...

If you paid $3.00 for a plate of chicken rice and was served with only chicken bone and the boss tell you be thankful many people in different part of the world have nothing to eat. I believe you will gladly chew the chicken bone and consider yourself blessed.

You might be very rich to see 5.5 million dollar insignificant.

That aside, please dont bring up all those " African" arguments. IMO if you wanna use that to argue a point, make sure you never complain about dirty toilets, bad jobs, unfair treatment, prejudice, unaffordable housing and everything under the sun.

Simply because no matter what aspect you are complaining about, the Africans are definitely worse off than you.

I guess we can only be thankful that standards are improved drastically immediately after this outcry. It shows that someone up there is listening.

Bad way to start, but at least we are seeing improvements, which people seem to disregard.

I like the African argument, because it only applies to people with wretched food. It's a great attempt to make wretched people feel (somewhat) better. Also it gives the more well-travelled folks a chance to brag about having been to these exotic places and the great compassion they feel for the foodless.

I remember during sec school days we seniors were supposed to lead juniors to do community service. We packed some really crummy nasi lemak for them.

One of the kids showed a fugly scrunched up face and said his maid has better food than this. We gave the kid a lecture on Africa and basically humiliated him.

Then we seniors dumped our share to the bunch of si ginna and went off to the coffee shop. :bsmilie::bsmilie:

for $2.50 at bedok hawker centre, i get :

1 big serving of nasi lemak,
1 full size 6" fried fish,
2 big serving of veg (1 is long beans fried with tiny dried shrimes the other veg dont know the english & chinese name),
1 serving of chillies (with ikan bilies & onion)
