Agreed. It's an issue of face, but still I don't see why we have to do it at such an extent.
I don't think we are talking about getting the same food as the athletes. But there should be a minimum level of quality. Sure, this is probably an isolated case, but still, it is irresponsible to provide such kind of food to the volunteers, they are not respecting the people who help out.
It's their choice to help out and they can choose not to volunteer or back out, but that's not the point. People always say that, and look what our trains are like. Always can choose whether to board, will never get stranded on the platform because our trains can pack 1600 people and our 1400 people merely eat too much and are too fat and that's why they complain cannot fit into the trains. We should treat the volunteers with more respect, and not consider them as sai kang warriors or dogs or slaves.
We should also not compare them to Africans. That is to discriminate against Africans, and then at another level, discriminating against our volunteers.
