Yesterday popped out D5D for a spin

Yupz. Juz enter ur function menu, go all the way down where u can select Natural, Portrait, Landscape, Adobe color space mode. Juz select the B&W mode will do.

Sorry, no colour filters. I wished for it though.

The new Olympus E500 has B&W mode with colour filters Thought of getting that instead but the noise at high iso for that cam disappointed me..

Actually if you have photoshop, you would be able to create black and white from colour images with the effect of whatever colour filter you want.

Check out the channel mixer tool in photoshop.
Much more flexible than using an actual filter too =)

well... yeah. tho the purists out there will argue dat the actual filter on the lens will give a more even rendering across ur pics. :bsmilie:

but, yeah. u can create it in photoshop or can try these set of free filters.

still, its not a good idea to directly convert ur pic in camera to BnW. best to leave it in colour then manipulate it in PS. there are also free PS BnW *.atn and plugins (try google optikverve) available online.

20D may not be a new DSLR, but it has the following color toning (Yellow/Orange/Red/Green) for B/W. I believe the same also applies for 350D.

anyway, wan color filters, just print out a color chart, den preset whitebalance to that color, your pics auto got filter liao lor...

LOL dun think there's actually a B&W filter other than using IR filter rite.. From my use it creates a totally different photo. very cool (without the channel swapping). Don't think there's a software filter than can do something similar yet..

hmm anyway hor.. dSLR B&W mode is just colour desaturation of a colour photo. If u dun believe me u test it out. LOL unlike film, dSLR sensors don't capture in B&W.. the best they can do is to use the colour information and desaturate it. Something that is also done in Photoshop. And you can do it better with the colour channel information. I doubt the small processor in the camera can match the $500 CPU in my computer.

Thus you can say that using the B&W mode is similar to using auto mode on the dSLR..

Dis I have to agree. I forgot that it was on B&W mode when I popped over to Esplanade waterfront for a test and my first picture there was on B&W! :bsmilie:

But its a pity Opanda PhotoFilters don't come in Macintosh variety. :bheart:

nope, those are really useless. once i shoot in b/w i can't control the tones anymore. if i shoot in colour, i still have choices to select RGB/CMYK channels to get what i want.
