Every Beat Connects The People
Rained in the morning at Jurong West.
The humidity after the rain is pretty killer.
I was drenched with sweat before i even reach Boon Lay MRT.
Maybe i was too tired or "drained". Only took a few shots at my usual hunt, Chinatown.
At the cross junction at Hong Lim Complex, i was asking myself, "Should i walked straight and maybe try to shoot something new or walked the usual path by cutting through Singapore River?"
Intuition told me to take the usual path.
Walked and walked, but still nothing to shoot. Or maybe i just can't "see" today.
Along Singapore River, somehow, another sense opened, Hear.
I heard some nice and vibrant drum beats despite the fact that i am listening to my MP3.
Turn around and an outdoor performance at the Asian Civilian Museum.
"Hoho, something fun to shoot", i told myself.
And so, my big feet and fat legs carry me as fast as i could to reach the other side of the river.
The rythm and volume was getting louder and clearer as i get nearer and nearer.
Once i was there, i then realise it was part of the "East Meets West Festival" and this performance is named "Drums Ensemble".
I was captivated by the mix and use of different traditional drums from different countries.
Every beat on different drums produces so much different tone and the mixture of these beats produce something i myself would call "Music".
Every beat of the drum attracts more and more passer-bys to watch and even sit down to enjoy it.
The crowd gets bigger as the pace of the beat increases.
Simply good stuff~
And, "Hey, isn't that Xingyao?", i was asking myself.
Hoho, realise one of the performer is my primary school classmate cum secondary school mate. (Third from the left)
I waved to him and haha, he was equally surprise to see me there as well.
I enjoyed the whole performance till the lunch session is over.
I went up to my friend and had a chat with him.
It's really been a while. I guess the last time we met was in 1995.
"Manz..." ,i was telling myself. 13 years just went by like that and it was like yesterday...
And now, Xingyao is into Full Time Music while i am an Engineer with serious interest in photography.
We exchanged number and maybe, can work together on something.
I was really amaze by the coincidence.
Really amaze at how music can connect people.
*Oh ya, the lady is the mother of the performer, 2nd from left. Both mother and son was enjoying the performance.
And for those who are interested, maybe you can check out the event.
