X10 and X-S1 Issues.... not resolved till MAY 2012.

Hi

Is that an orbs issue?

DSCF0455.jpg

nope those are just regular out of focus highlights :)

try shooting into the mirror with the flash on you will see the orbs

do a long expsoure shot at nite...99.99% will get orbs cause of the lamp lights around.

It's 100% if the night scene is lit up by a couple of artificial lamps

N e light source is part of e composition

So far does anyone has a clear message from FF Singapore on what is going to be done?

Sent out my email again and the customer service xxxx (name removed by mod) just asked for the serial # and my contact which apparently I had already forwarded to them on the very first complaint email. In fact if he bother to scoll down the email he could have see all the information he required.

So much so for their professionalism.

Any other member other than Surge got the reply email that they will replace the sensor FOC?

discuss your greviences sure but please do not break a someone's rice bowl ..... name removed

i haven't been following the X10 and XS1 for a while... but it sounds like the EXR sensor which is shared between the X10 and the XS1 is doing its job in capturing light "too well"... thus the blooming. as resported, when metered for a nightscene, bright lamps / headlights will appear "blown"... from the sensor, its blooming.

does metering -1EV to -2EV (at the expense of overall scene) or shoot in DR mode (6MP vs 12MP) help? the lowering of the exposure (-1EV or -2EV) of the scene to try to get it to a level where the sensor doesn't bloom from the light soures. the DR mode bands photosites works in pairs together to increase the dynamic range of the image, where one of the paired similarly-colored photosites has a "shorter exposure", while the other is "fully exposed". and this was what the firmware "fix" was trying to do, but you had to be in EXR mode.

whatever it is, we at least know that Fujifilm has already said that they recognise the issue... tried a firmware, didn't seem to resolve it... now a new sensor, hopefully that will do it. but that been said, they said that the new sensor will only be available from late May 2012... so some patience, pls.

as advised by the release, if you have a X10 and XS1 which has exhibited the "orbs", to call their local authorized Fujifilm service centre. i understand that they will take down your details, and will call you once the sensors are in. thereafter, they will test your camera and do a sensor replacement if nec. but best you call and get the information directly from the Fujifilm service centre directly.

so, for those who have not really been affected by the "orbs"... carry on shooting;
for those who are a little irked by the "orbs"... try the -1EV / -2EV or DR and see if you can live with it for now... until late May;
for those who cannot tahan the "orbs", let's wait to see how the new sensor performs...

Actually all e x10 orbs. Just that most ppl don't have e habit of including bright light source in an image. After printing close to a thousand shots( yes that's a con for this cam. It's so handy that u bring it out all e time n ended.up w so.many family photos. N to me, all my daughter's photo r pretty! ) had yet to reject any.photo due to orb.

I think you're right - they all do it. Whether or not orbs are produced depends on the nature of the shot. If you never take shots with very intense specular highlights (car headlights, street lights, ceiling lights etc.) you will never notice them. But even by reducing EV or increasing ISO in orb-producing conditions, you can't avoid them altogether. They don't trouble me that much, but I'll certainly get my X10 'doctored' when the time comes.

Totally agree, important to have a loving wife, if pretty even better! Fuji! Keep e good things coming!
