X-T1

Even with a 1.4 lens, I'll not be using it at 1.4 to track action.
I'll want to set the appropriate aperture to maximise my keeper rate.

Why set yourself up for failure?

.... f1.4 apsc is around f2 in ff. i shoot f1.4 in ff quite often... it is all about the look of the pic you want. if a camera forces me to shoot at a smaller aperture due to the limitations of its af, i guess there is still room for improvement

Its not about failure but xt1 at high price tag, users have high expectations for "fastest AF".
From the video below the cheapest m4/3 even focuses faster

"fastest AF" to me is just an attention grabber. Fuji has come a long way since X100 / X-pro 1. With the X-T1, AF speed is very usable. There is still room for improvement for sure, especially in low light and AF tracking, maybe cross-type PDAF pixel sensors will help. AF performance now is hardly a deal breaker for most except perhaps the pros shooting NBA.

Bro it's using xf60mm, known to be slowest af lens. Focus very much depend on lens also, I am sure you know that.

From this video (0.28) the 35mm f1.4 on xt1 in lowlight. Be your own judge

23mm is wider than 35mm and f2 vs f1.4, DOF is so much larger. In any case, S AF from the 3 cameras are not bad at all, thanks to Fujifilm's superb policy of updating older cameras with firmwares.

I probably am going to get flamed for this but what the heck.. Got to use the X-T1 for a while today and I am totally disappointed with it. The buttons were hard to handle and unresponsive, especially the 4 way controller. I have owned 3 X mount cameras prior and I think the X-T1 has the worst user interface. If I can't get pass the interface, I'm not interested if its the fastest focussing camera in the world. That's a deal breaker for me. Just my view.

Na , I tried it at Fuji showroom too. Considered the X-T1 in my return to Fuji after the x20 and x100 and especially now since the pre-order deal would've meant buying the X-T1 allows me to start with a basic suit of lenses - my final choice was the X100s and still my EM-1.

The x100 also went through a few rounds before it finally settled most of its issues , at least I trust Fuji will work to address issues ,unlike the other brand which will likely make u buy the next generation model instead.

That said , there's always something for everyone and we all have individual quirks and preferences. :)

You shoot action at f1.4 in FF?
Can share some sequence pix at f1.4?

I'm really interested as I do shoot quiet a lot of action.

I've missed the first part of your sentence regarding the high price tag. At RSP of S$1999, it is certainly high (notwithstanding the free lens as most people will sell it off anyway.). X-T1 body only is selling at USD1299 (~S$1650) in U.S. and that's their launch price. In HK, the body only was launch at HKD9999 (~S$1640), the price has since drop to HKD9780-HKD9800 (~S$1605). To put things into perspective, D610 body only is going for around S$2000-S$2100 and that's full frame. @_@

This issue is country specific, cameras and lenses from other brands are also having this problem. It's not as if shipping cost from Japan to Singapore is so much higher than from Japan to U.S.

AF speed is not solely body dependent. The lens plays a part too. 35mm lens uses the old af motor and is know to be slower than the newer lens.

Even the m4/3 20mm lens will focus not as quickly on the em1

Panasonic 20mm was released on 2009 and Fuji 35mm on 2012? Why not compare the Fuji 35mm to Olympus 17mm?

I am too lazy to dig out a pic.

you can check out my website at http://wwww.deborap.com

you should be able to find quite a few shots at 35mm f1.4 with a moving subject (my kid).

For the DSLR the hit rate is around 60-80% which is useable. But the FF+35mmf1.4 is heavy and does not have a tilt screen. I am looking to dump FF for a mirrorless. Fuji is the only company with good f1.4 lens for mirrorless. If they can get the AFC on par, it will be a winner for me.

Got to agree that in general mirrorless af accuracy still cannot match dslr. Especially kids running towards you, my em5 and x-pro1 just having hard time catching them. I am hoping nmirrorless no matter which brand will break through to have fast at the same time accurate and snappy af.

I've to agree with you on the 4-way controller. They are too recessed into the body and my thumb couldn't feel them when I'm looking through the EVF or at the LCD. It would have been better if they are the same as XE2/X100(s). I think I'll paste some stickers on them to make them more voluminous.

I also don't quite like the lock on the dials. They make changing settings a bit more cumbersome. If there is a need for it, then it could have been like those we find on pens, press once to lock, press again to unlock.

The 4-way controller is horrid, and almost a deal breaker for me. But I don't really use it much (photo scroller is the only thing i do and tats with the front dial) I suspect the weather seal has something to do with it. (No excuse since the d600 is also weather sealed)

I'm just glad the exposure +/- has no lock since I use tat often. As it is, its hard to single thumb turn it. ISO lock is fine since its on the edge and can be acccidently turned. The shutter lock is a bit extra ?

Was at IT Show earlier.. Lens are around $100+ discounted from the Fuji price list being give out.. 56mm f/1.2 is out, and is really sweet :) [Cash back available for 56mm too]

Thanks for the link.
Will look through them.

Although, the 4-way controller and locks are not that nice to me, I can still work around/get used to it. So it's not a deal breaker for me. As it is, I think the X-T1 will be the best seller compared to the 3 X bodies (X-pro1, X-E1 and X-E2) earlier. Keep up the good work, Fuji!

Yes, I saw the X-T1 with 56mm f1.2 when I was there. It not only looks good, feels good, it's light! Hard for for any portrait shooter to resist IMO.

You must be dreaming if u think one day the Fuji is going to track a running child at the widest aperture.

played with it at IT show, and agree with both of you - the 4-way controller is way too recessed, and ever since some ppl complained of loose dials on the x100/xp1 fuji has gone extreme and made the dials way too tight. i'm practically thumb wrestling with the dial.
also the front AF mode switch - it's been flattened out - why? it was perfectly alright on the xp1.

the evf was super sweet though, esp the dual view mode.
