X-T1

I tried attaching it to the post, but nothing happens. You're just going to have to take my words for it.

Anyone has issues with the pop up flash? I attached it and lifted it but nothing happens. The option to change flash mode is still greyed out

I tested mine and it's working. Make sure the contact is clear and it's firmly attached?
Cheers.

That's what I did last night. Shall try again, if not I think I probably got a dud

Yeah, our unit is considered as first batch so there are definitely a lemon there, hope yours is fine after you try again tonight. ;-)

set your drive mode to "S" (single shot mode).
I'm assuming all X series cameras behave like that since both my X100S and XT1 can't utilize flash in burst mode.

Is ur camera on silent mode?..
When it is on silent mode, flash is disabled..

Yes it is! Shall try again. Thanks this might be just the solution I needed

Hey guys, I've got a question regarding the AF tracking on the XT1..

I'm coming from a Nikon D700 body where previously I was able to set my AF point over the object I would like to track, and as long as I half pressed the shutter in AFC mode, that AF point would follow the object around the frame, and the camera even has a setting where you can tell it how long to lose sight of the object before giving up on the tracking (in case your subject gets blocked by a person or moves off the frame temporarily)

All the Panasonic m43 bodies I've owned also have this feature where you can set your crosshair over the subject you want, and it would automatically follow the subject around the frame if it moves, allowing you to lock focus on that subject once you half press the shutter.

On the XT1, however, if I set it to AFC mode, then use a single AF point to plant it over my object, once the AF locks and the AF point turns green, the AF point doesn't move around the screen no matter where my object moves. Does this mean that I have to keep my object in the same part of the frame in order to maintain focus on it, or is the camera performing its own tracking of the subject even though the AF point is not following it?

It's the same thing if I change the AF mode to multiple AF points and let the camera decide what to focus on. Once I half press the shutter and it locks focus, the focus point stays put and doesn't move even though my subject moves away from the green locked AF point.

So my question is.. Does the camera actually "remember" what you locked focus on when you initially half pressed the shutter, then follows it around the frame even though the AF point may not be moving? Or are you expected to keep your focus point constantly over the subject you would like to focus on?

I believe you need to ensure the AF point is over the subject at all times......
even for the D700, if you use single AF point and AFC, you would need to do the same (if i remember correctly....)

When I just switched over to fujifilm I keep asking myself where the hell is the highlighted tracking box. What I see is just a cross at the centre for my x-pro1 in af-c mode. I just got x-t1 and wonder how to make full use of the af-c too. I doubt it will work the same as d700 with the illumination box. I remember one bro mention that we need to set the AF-C priority setting to focus and not release to use it effectively. Still playing around with the cam, I shall test it out this weekend.

Actually there was a setting in the D700 which allowed tracking without having to place the point over the subject.. If I remember correctly, there were 3 modes to choose from for the D700 AF point..

Multi - Camera decides where to focus and highlights multiple points on screen telling you what it has picked

Single - You choose your own single AF point

3D Tracking (can't recall the name) - you set the AF point, but it moves around the screen when your subject moves. At least that's what I recall.. Haha

Edit: This is the switch I was talking about. If you switch it to middle position and turn on the 3D tracking function, your AF point will move to follow your subject if it moves away from the initial focus position.

The highlighted box appears when you half press and it locks focus.. That's provided you are in face detection mode or the multi point AF mode.. If you're in single point AF mode you can set where the box should be. It's what happens after that which confuses me. Once the camera locks focus, that green box doesn't move so I don't know if it's tracking my subject or not.

Anyone managed to find a screen protector for the XT1?
Thanks in advance!

I brought mine to phone shop, they will use phone protector and cut exactly to the X-T1 LCD size with proper cutter. Fit nicely.

has anyone used a non-fuji flash ? I have an "older" Nissin D866 (Canon compatible) laying around but it won't fit, I can't slide it on the gap to the upper tightening wheel is to small..wth

I'm using a Yongnuo 560 III, no problems mounting onto hotshot and triggering.
Apart from having no TTL, it is really cheap and good.

I use Nikon flash on my X100. No TTL but can use "A" mode and manual.

Have to admit flash wise, especially offshoe wireless TTL, Fuji is still lacking. It needs to keep on improving its focusing and flash.

Edit: On the other hand, LED lights seems to be a good alternative and they can be used for video too.
