X-Pro 1 User Group

Hello X Pro 1 Owners,

I'm looking into buying the X pro 1 camera and I'd like to get a feedback how's the AF speed and accuracy performance in good and low light after installing the new firmware.

I searched for reviews but I'm not able to find answers. I've read some feedbacks from page 38, if my memory serves me right, and there were positive feedbacks but the thread went to a different direction due to the link not working.

Thanks in advance to those who will put up time to enlighten me. Cheers!

best way is to get your hands on one. I can tell you it's fast but you might feel otherwise.

Hi eleveninth, I'm planning to drop by to MS Color once i'm free.

Any feedback on the AF accuracy?

Any feedback on the AF accuracy?

I have the X-E1, but have used the X100 since the start. Looking for vertical contrasts for AF, estimating OVF parallax error is all part of the learning curve (okay, i cheat and use EVF most of the time, hence i went for the XE1 instead). The camera is only fast if you are precise in focusing the correct spot, slow as hell if you treat it like your DSLR shotgun. There is not much magic a firmware can do if you do not adhere to the rules.

I reckon the Xpro1 should be the same.

Improvement after the firmware update.

I'm not to sure if the ones at MS would have the latest firmware, but even if they don't you'll know there would be a slight improvement after fw update.

Hi reject,
It is difficult to give you a definitive answer as to whether the AF speed on the X-Pro1 is fast or not. It is very subjective. To some people, it feels ok. To some, it's not fast. I've used the X-Pro1 since it was first launched and with each firmware update, there were some improvements but you have to manage your expectations and accept that the X-Pro1 will never come close to the AF performance of a DSLR. The X-Pro1 AF system works on Contrast Detection. So in good light, good contrast, its AF will be quite fast, it'll lock on to the subject quite fast. In low light, low contrast, it may hunt and take longer to acquire focus. I have learned to work within the limitations of the X-Pro1 and enjoy using it instead of trying to compare its AF performance vs ??? whatever you want to compare. Also, do note that the lens firmware also needs to be updated to enjoy the benefits of body firmware updates.
Cheers!

Thank you so much for your reply sf_kang. I guess I just need to go out and test from the store and see if the AF speed is fast enough for my preference. and the portion of comparing it to DSLR already gives me a rough idea how it's going to be. Thanks!

Agree with what other bros mentioned. Just bare in mind that X-Pro1 is mirrorrless and technology is slightly different from DSLR. It is use when preference such as portability, afordability are concern. Having said that IQ has not been compromised for it's small body, but of cause you have to comare that with other APSC or similar sensor and not to full frame sensor camera.

It take a while to get use to the control and overcome the limitation, but it will be fruitful once you master it. Personally i shoot more when i use smaller camera as compare to the DSLR.

Thanks for the input! The reason i want to switch is because of the weight. Since my baby came out, cannot manage to bring the dslr anymore because of all the things i carry. I want to make sure I understand, with help of the one's already owning and using X Pro 1, what to expect.

Thats part of the reason I switched too. Although I still have my dslr, I use my x-pro1 more often to shoot my active baby (18 mths now). Before x-pro1 I tried other mirorrless but dont quite like it. In term of control, I feel that x-pro1/e1 is closer to dslr. IMO fuji has a good auto wb and iso control.

If you aee getting x-pro1, do take lens into consideration as well. 18-55mm so has the best speed and more flexible. 35mm allows you to take great portrait and at low light but slower af. For the start, I would recommend you to get the two lens.

Oh ya if you are thinking of ovf, you may want to forget about using it as it is still quite buggy. You will end up using evf of life view more often. So you may want to consider xe1 instead?

I'm planning to get those 2 lenses and then the 60mm as well. but before I get these babies, I'll be selling off my current gear

yeah. I sold off all my canon gear, feel such a huge relief whenever I travel now. lol

I can easily bring 3-4 lens without it being so heavy!

Sorry to interrupt. I am considering to get the xpro1 and thinking if it can goes well with voigtlander lenses? Did anyone tried it before?

Of coz it does. Especially now wif focus peaking. BBB.

Ehhh.... what is focus peaking ahh? By the way if voitglander lens were to attached to the xpro1, does it need an adapter?

Thanks vengels for the video, also if u mention that i will need a m to x mount adapter, will it do af as well or only manual focus?

Anyone here experience with this before?

No af bro..

Only manual.. With focus peaking now it makes mf more efficient..

Ahh... OK thanks for the info. Btw not sure how easy for me to do manual focus. Lol.. couse all the while I'm using af... hehehe

It all depends on what u take..

Moving subjects then it can be quite challenging.. If u do zone focusing then much easier..

Landscapes and stationary subjects then no problems..
