The lag is pretty annoying on the xp1. Lost a good number of shots until I re-adjusted myself to fire a little earlier to get the shot. Adding a soft shutter release also helped.
yup it used to be a real bummer with the shutter lag... firmware 2.0 really improves this a lot. :D Now I can even track my dogs with my x-pro1.

So the soft shuttle release is quite essential? I oso see alot of ppl buy the EP-7S Thumbs Up grip... How much is it locally? Might ask my colleague to buy it tomorrow when he goes to HK...

Soft shutter release is not really a must... it provides a bigger footprint for the shutter button so that you can press it with your knuckles/ side of your finger. I find using a soft release much more comfortable... as a long time DSLR user.

As for the ThumbsUp, it cost $180 for the EP-7S. Very expensive for a little piece of metal but it provides very good support to hold the camera, be it for composition or to hold the camera when on the streets.

I've not used the Thumbsup but IMHO it's an incredibly pricey piece of metal (> SGD100 i think?) that might or might nor work for you.

The shutter on the xp1 is a bit too low/close to the camera body and doesn't have enough of a surface area to get a nice solid feel. Without a soft shutter release I have to use my fingertip to depress the shutter and it's less stable IMHO.

With a soft shutter release the shutter becomes higher, and I can use a rifle-trigger style of depressing (using finger joint) which I feel is more stable and lets me shoot at slower shutter speeds with less shake.

Hmm didn't notice any improvement on the shutter lag on fw2.0.
What the thumbsup is $180!?

It is 10 times better... Haha.. joking!

A filter is a filter, but if you like a more matching colour (shiny black for black lenses) and the single EBC coating which is aligned to Fujinon EBC coating, this will be a matching filter

Not so expensive locally... if you know how to negotiate. Slightly cheaper than the Carl Zeiss one that I am using. Might as well get a Carl Zeiss one, which is very similar in colour?

Btw, y is this filter from Fuji so expensive? Any better than B+W??

Bro, for ovf framelines, there,s an option to enlarge the framebox of 50mm to fit the entire vf frame. To activate this, while in ovf mode, turn and hold the frameline lever till theframelines enlarge to fit vf frame. With this the 50mm frameline will be bigger (similar to evf size) instead of just 50% of the vf frame. Hope my explanation above is clear enough.

OVF framelines give you a rough idea of what is in-focus, but for 50mm (which is 75mm in 35mm equiv) the OVF framelines covers around 50% of the entire OVF (what you see is a small box at the center indicating 50mm FoV).

The OVF is optimized to display framelines from 18-60mm (which is 27-90mm in 35mm equiv)... anything wider than 18mm you will end up picking things up at the corners... anything above 60mm and your focus box becomes so small that you hardly can see what is in the frame.

If you negotiate a little, it can be bought at $170. Still expensive, but this is an equipment started with Leica and thus same vendor will charge this like Leica accessories!

Hmm didn't notice any improvement on the shutter lag on fw2.0.

I could never take this shot with prior firmware... shot taken with x-pro1 + XF35. I think is f/2, shutter priority with +1EV. The improvement is HUGE on my x-pro1 after I installed the new firmware... it feels almost like a new camera.

i just use a normal multi-coated hoya. but sometimes at night with bright/shiny objects get quite prominent flaring. oh well. :dunno:

used to use UV filters for weather-seal on my L lens but no longer use any UVs on my XF and adapted lens. The only filter I have now is a B+W Cir-PL...

Well.. having a filter, u just need to clean the filter glass instead of having to clean the front element. Dust & fingerprints might land on the front element after some usage.

Haha... Yes Mr ZoomZ... Thanks for clarifying...

Hi Mr Drillbit,

The X-E1 is awesome, coming from a NEX 7 user perspective. Not saying NEX 7 is bad but I think on a native lens setup perspective, this combo provides the bang for bucks if U wanna get Leica M9 + Summilux FLE kinda picture quality. Sharp, Wonderful Colors, Details, Bokeh & it's so light... Seriously, NEX 7 is great with my Cron 35 ASPH but love the ISO performance on the X-E1.

Thanx ZoomZ and Thoth
I'm asking coz I'm wondering if I can change my X-Pro1 to X-E1. Seems like IQ will not suffer, with the benefit of X-E1 being smaller & lighter, plus build-in flash. Only downside is the loss of OVF.

Thanks for all the quick replies. You guys no need work ah how come so free so fast reply one?

Thanks again.

they r those who order ppl do work. :bsmilie:

For me the big issue is battery life with evf.
with ovf and minimal chimping i can only squeeze roughly 200 shots per-battery on xp1.

How many shots have u guys got on xe1?

I can try, since I sold my X-Pro1 mainly due to size and went for the X-E1.

IQ is exactly the same to me with superb sharpness and resolution. I don't really use the OVF, and my OVF started to have dust then, which is common and very hard to keep clean.

I also don't use flash, so the additional built-in flash is just for contingency.

Being smaller and lighter, it fits my need really well. With the handgrip it it very sturdy as compared to X-Pro1, which is slight too big, especially with the handgrip.

One of the best difference is for left eye shooter. The X-Pro1 has the status light located near the area where your right eye is when you shoot with the left eye, thus very bright for your right eye. Heard the new firmware allow configuration to that, but I think the Fuji designers took the feedback and moved the status light to extreme right now, which is perfect!

Didn't really count how many shots per battery, but since X-Pro1 days, I have been bringing spares just in case. As I don't use OVF in my X-Pro1, not much difference in battery life for both.

I think switching off the "Quick Start Up" makes quite a bit of difference to the battery life.
