That's what I meant. All these lenses cannot get any sharper. The image produced is so sharp that it is already maximising the sensor.

The fact that the kit 35mm can be super sharp at F1.4, yet lighter and with full Auto-Focus, and cost a fraction of Leica's best lenses. What do you think?

Can save the trouble to get legacy lenses. Like I said, only Nex 7 will need to use them as Sony did not have many solid lenses made for Nex. But for Fuji, the lenses are top range and for this Fuji X body, even if get all the Leica best lenses, the results will be at best, slightly better?

Yeah... I do agree.... but as what i alwayz say... d VAIN factor... Haha

consider getting adapted lens if and only if you cannot find equivalent lens on native XF mount. :)

X lenses lineup basically cover up to the shorter ranges... maybe a Leica Telyt R 180mm?

Fuji started bringing out all the superb prime first to serve the targeted users looking for exceptional IQ comparable with Leica (just like the X100 for the Leica X1 users - one up above with a better lens embedded). Leica's strengths are all the great prime M lenses such as 35lux, 50lux, etc. So to grab these market with deeper pockets, prime lenses are always sought after. 35mm with the 1.5x crop is comparing with 50lux, and 23mm F1.4 to be launched in 2013, will be a direct comparison to a 35lux.

Fuji will launch all the zoomz lenses soon. To ensure that the zoom lenses are not of lower quality like Nex series (all 2nd hand price is as low as $150 for a mint set!), they have pumped up the optical quality too and even the standard zoom lens will be from F2.8. Very rare.

Hard to tell the IQ of it, but I am sure there will be a long list of X users waiting for this zoom lens. I won't mind getting it as complement to my 35mm kit, since the zoom lens can double up as normal wide and short zoom for travel trips.

Roadmaps of the lenses coming soon, including the longer zoom (Will likely be available in 2013, the longer zoom lens is a nice 55-200mm zoom!):

One thing I like on the XF lenses is that they are well made, very small and very light. I can have both my 18 and 35 in my bag yet I don't feel the weight.

Leica lenses on the other hand.. Is more solid but also substantially heavier than the XF equivalent.

Agree. Especially the Chrome sets, which are alot heavier than the black ones.

It is more heavy for carrying, and heavier for budget. Haha...

Cannot convince users how good the XF lenses are.... guess everyone will need to go through the BBB journey to compare and understand I guess!

U r talking abt me? Haha. Anyway. Glad I switched to X-E1. Sexy as it is and perform almost like M9 + Lux asph in terms of IQ and sharpness as it was shown in d reviews.

Poor man's option. LOL

You will be surprised to know that there are people asking on the net on how to adapt XF lenses to Canon/Nikon/Nex/m4/3... :D

Guess some ppl were emotionally tied to those legacy lenses tat had served them so well. I mean I love d picture quality of my cron 35 ASPH on my NEX 7 previously. It's already super awesome other than my grubs on d purple fringing and d noise visibility even at low iso.

XF 35-1.4 is a perfect match for d X-E1 but cron 35 ASPH adapted to my XE-1 will look super sexy n performs quite well on it too. Haha

I won't mind putting the 35mm F1.4 lens on my M9P since it is as good as a 35FLE, but can't work out for a rangefinder. Perhaps this could be an option for the future Leica M since there will be live-view available in the future!

Own preference I guess. I won't put a Leica lens to my X-E1 due to the weight distribution. X-E1 body is too light and the heavy Leica lenses (especially the chrome ones) will create an imbalance of front heavy and camera will be pointing down all the time?

Anyway, X-E1 for me is for light weight travel and casual shoot. In event when weight is not an issue, I would be bringing my M9P, or probably my old canon DSLR.

Really personal preference, please don't scold me. But in the rangefinder's world, most users would want to cover the Leica logo, or some tried to remove the red logo to avoid being too loud, or being recognised as a Leica. The "soul" of this is the picture with soul it takes when most user feels that it has the 3D look and you can shoot any shots with the lens wide open, permanently at F1.4 for my 50lux.

Hi Thoth
How's the X-E1? How's the EVF sharpness and refresh rate? Is it a big trade off from the OVF?

Mr Thoth was a Nex 7 user. He won't be able to advise you on the difference between the EVF and OVF.

Haha... Yes Mr ZoomZ... Thanks for clarifying...

Hi Mr Drillbit,

The X-E1 is awesome, coming from a NEX 7 user perspective. Not saying NEX 7 is bad but I think on a native lens setup perspective, this combo provides the bang for bucks if U wanna get Leica M9 + Summilux FLE kinda picture quality. Sharp, Wonderful Colors, Details, Bokeh & it's so light... Seriously, NEX 7 is great with my Cron 35 ASPH but love the ISO performance on the X-E1.

Mind if I ask a few questions to the xpro1 or xe1 users:

1) shutter lag. Is the picture taken the instant you press the shutter button or is there a slight lag just?

2) evf lag. Is the lag as bad as what some users complaining or is so slight that its negligible?

3) for M-mount users is the ovf more useful or evf? What about ovf framelines for 50mm?

Still clueless as how xpro1's ovf/evf works. TIA for the help :)

A new X-E1 user, from my experience:

1. Slight Shutter lag, not much of an issue.
2. EVF in low light, yes, it lags quite abit though, in good light, no issues till now for me. I havent try tracking moving objects using the EVF though.
3. I havent try my Cron 35 ASPH on the X-E1 yet, waiting to test on bro pit14's Hawk's adaptor and see if the manual focusing is painful on the EVF.

Cheers

To be really honest, everyone has their own standards in terms of EVF/shutter lag. Coming from a ex-1D Mark III user I can tell you my x-pro1 (with latest firmware which makes it on par with X-E1) has serious shutter lag and the EVF lag is intolerable. Still, I got used to these shortcomings and now loving my x-pro1 much more. You really need to give the x-pro1/x-e1 a spin at local stores to have a hands-on... that's your best answer. :)

As for the 3rd question, you can only use EVF on adapted lens. The OVF works but since the x-pro1 isn't rangefinder-coupled there is no way for you to know if you are in-focus. You can only shoot at hyperfocals, zone focusing, or put to infinity at smaller apertures if you want to shoot with the OVF. If you switch to EVF you have full through-the-lens view and it is easier to determine areas that are in focus. OVF framelines give you a rough idea of what is in-focus, but for 50mm (which is 75mm in 35mm equiv) the OVF framelines covers around 50% of the entire OVF (what you see is a small box at the center indicating 50mm FoV).

The OVF is optimized to display framelines from 18-60mm (which is 27-90mm in 35mm equiv)... anything wider than 18mm you will end up picking things up at the corners... anything above 60mm and your focus box becomes so small that you hardly can see what is in the frame.

The lag is pretty annoying on the xp1. Lost a good number of shots until I re-adjusted myself to fire a little earlier to get the shot. Adding a soft shutter release also helped.

So the soft shuttle release is quite essential? I oso see alot of ppl buy the EP-7S Thumbs Up grip... How much is it locally? Might ask my colleague to buy it tomorrow when he goes to HK...

Thumbsup grip EP-7S will not fit the X-E1, as it is meant for X-Pro1. Wait for the new version specific for X-E1, which will be available earliest in Nov. EP-7S for the X-Pro1 is aligned to the mode dial area of the X-Pro1 and may cover some areas of the X-E1. Retail Price for this is $170. Around the same price as the original handgrip.

I find using the handgrip more stable for X-Pro1 and X-E1, though I used to have BOTH the thumbsup and handgrip on my X-Pro1. Good investment for me as it helps to stabilise the camera. If I need to choose one of them, it will be the handgrip, unless there is a new leather halfcase with built-in handgrip created, just like those from Luigi for the M9.

Soft release button helps a little as it extend the button a little higher and cover the hole to prevent dirt. This is the same style as a rangefinder camera.

A good soft release button helps to increase sensitivity of the shuttle feel and snapping at the right spot when you press the button slowly.

As X-E1 is quite light, the benefits of the handgrip and thumbsup is not as obvious as the M9. I have both of them installed on my M9P.

Ok... Thanks... I will go google and see how the handgrip looks like. Cheers
