It depends on your needs really. 10GB is equivalent to 10,000MB. If each image is 1MB, it can store 10,000 photos. If it's 2MB per image, then it's 5000 photos. For most people, this is more than enough shots that they shoot in a long while.

However, 10GB harddisk are no longer in production and it's almost impossible to find a brand new notebook harddisk lesser than 20GB.

There's a 2nd hand laptop shop beside EastGear.com which sells cheap 2nd harddisk lesser than 20GB, we can recommend customers there for good prices.

Currently, EastGear.com only carry brand new Hitachi harddisk above 20GB.

I suppose the hard disk the Xdrive is using is a laptop HDD rite??

Yes. 2.5" HDD specifically.

BTW, this price reduction is really great news! Will most likely get one from you once our planned overseas trip pushes through. ;)

:Later,

X-Drive II did not work with a particular batch of Ridata (2001) and the problem lies with the card as certain cameras and card readers cannot read it as well.

So far there is no known compatibility problems between the X-Drive II and any other media.

Just making a better product more attractive and competitive in price.

Superiority of X-Drive II
1) Built-in 7 memory card slots
2) Smaller
3) Lighter
4) Free Carry Case
5) Optional accessories like external battery pack, car charger available

Does it work with PC with only USB1.1?

How do I know if my RiData 256MB card belongs to that class of incompatible card?
It worked well Canon G3 so far...

Yes, it is backward compatible with USB 1.1
You can bring down the card to test with our demo X-Drive II, usually if it is incompatible, none of the files will be copied over.

I went into the website and it mentioned about the unlimited internal HD.
if there's internal HDD, then why must spend extra $$$ to get the 10GB or 20GB one?

Question is: Do I have to spend the extra dough in addition to the $159 just to get the X-drive to store my stuff?

The internal HDD is optional. You can opt to buy the XDrive II with or without a HDD.

Your call. The XDrive II can act as an external HDD as well, so that's a big plus (for me, at least :sweatsm:)

:Later,

I have an old 4 GB HDD (2.5"), do you think it will work with xDriveII ?

most probably. i'm sure eastgear wouldn't mind if you brought the HDD down to their shop to test it out.

:bsmilie: Read the specs properly. It says that it can support any capacity HDD and not that it has an unlimited internal HDD! :bsmilie:

another point to note is that the HDD must be the 9.5mm height. the old 12mm type cannot fit..

EastGear,

Do you sell the internal batteries for X-Drive I? Mine just died on me and refuse to charge anymore. Can help? :)

Quick question : what kind of cable does it use to connect to PC ? Is it the standard USB or mini-USB cable ? Or proprietary cable ?
