I still hope the exhibition will go on, so I can take a good look at the work of these artists.

It was the 'beautiful story' behind those photos that make them outstanding, and now that the truth is out, they are just some technically and aesthetically competent photos to me, nothing more.

So where is the artform now? Deception???

Since they are DI work, then they are not as technically challenging anymore.

so crazy to belief and to have planned and executed a plan which i didnt even belief could happen. but still, faith transcends everything. perhaps the only regret was never really being able to tell ignorewhite and msxi, i owe you two an apology.

the artist is Vincent Leow, the work was ''Body Fields'' performed in 1992. his performance was in response to the consumerist culture.

he made the performance with a clear intention. he was prepared to get arrested if the authorities think that it was indecent, but no he didn't get arrested.

he is one of the few Singaporean artists today who continue through their creative work strive to keep the art culture alive, but you don't see artists like him going around making lies or toying with people's sympathy.

Hobbit, I appreciate your kind choice of word - oversight. I can't control how others think - whether I am shifting blames or what. I am not here to make matters worse for myself and others. This has been such a nightmare for me as well.

From the time I first surfaced Wu Xiaokang as a candidate for Out of Focus 2007 to its acceptance by the organizer was quite a long time. In between there were little communication because Shirlene and I were both traveling. On the other hand, from the time adoseoflight's official acceptance to me being told I could leave or work for free was lightning short.

I left in shock and I would be lying to say I was happy to have worked so hard without being able to finish it. But as I told Shirlene, I approached all three exhibitors as MOP2007 curator and I did not think it was ethical for me to demand that they withdraw just because I am out.

Like it or not, the authenticity of the work was never part of the conversation between Shirlene and myself. We were both too caught up with getting sponsorship money in the run-up to this and most of our conversations were about money and the general plan.

If I had thought that it was important for me to inform Shirlene, I would have. But I never once thought about it.

I have told Robert and company I have no regrets selecting them and I will also say it here too. As to how I would manage it if I were still the curator, it is all academic lah. I don't think it will be fair to anyone for me to tell you what I would have done because honestly, I was not allowed to get to that point.

I understand where you are coming from, and I never for once think that you are trying to shift blame.

I also know that hindsight is always 20/20, so there's no point to go back and forth on this now.

What I have issue with, is that the artists, did not for once, showed remorse over what they did, nor any explanation over the issue, other than inferring that deception is a necessity to their art. That to many, is an excuse, not an explanation. And their timely change of stance at their doseoflight webpage is very symptomatic of how one would react when the deception is being exposed. Yes, they plan their work albeit carelessly, but they were totally unprepared for the uproar they have caused.

And choosing to run away from the whole saga, is what cowards do.

The only good and sensible thing for them to do now, is to spare the organiser and themselves some embarassment, and withdraw their work from the exhibition.

I know you are not in a position to interfere now that you are out, but is there some way you can convey this message across to the organisers, and perhaps Robert and his gang?

Every time we find out a photographer misrepresenting himself/herself in claiming credits for works they did not create, we turned into a feverish mob to make sure the wrong is righted. I remembered we crucified a little kid for leeching a picture or two. And yet, I cannot understand how some of us here can have any sympathies towards the perpetrator of this hoax.

As I had commented earlier on, the perpetrators had no intention to ever reveal to the public of their hoax. This is not a marketing campaign. They started out to deceive the public, for whatever gain. They nearly pulled it off.

What must be done here? We are a community, we must clean our own house, otherwise others will eventually come and clean it for us.

There is only one thing that can be done. The exhibition must not be allowed to continue. Unfortunately, this is about as much as we can do. And it's the least we must make sure it is done.

Personally, I would prefer that that perpetrators are never to take another photograph ever again. But that is personal.

Now, if this is true, this is a preplanned, conspired depception!

Being an artist doesn't mean you've to break the law or to commit a moral sin or something.

Trying too hard to be different or being defiant for the sake of being one, is definitely pretentious and very unoriginal. This is not thinking out of the box, this is thinking within another dark box, don't you think?

At my friend's brother's couselling session, he was if he heard voices and if he contemplated suicide. His answers were yes and no.

Finally, I don't think adoseoflight members can wash away completely all the dirts but I do hope that in time to come, they will find the courage and the platform to apologize sincerely. I have seen projects done elsewhere where mental patients learn to express themselves through photography. Maybe they can consider doing something like this. Kay Chin, they probably find "courage" after the exhibition to come clean, trust me.

Well, they would have left with their loot after that, and leaving a sorry note behind is totally inconsequential and insincere. The favourite quote I like to use in this instance, is what SM Goh said during an election about Dr Chee: " You give me one Or Bak Kak liao then say sorry, got use meh?"

I'm still of the opinion that the organisers should have some sense to take those damn fake photos down, if they are serious about what art is, and that they are not to be perceived as a collaborators in eyes of many.

Hmm I think the issue now is more about the misleading and bluffing of people and playing with their emotions more than the issue of whether schizophrenics look at the world that way.

Lying and playing with emotions is in very bad taste, in my view. :thumbsd:
