Additional Comments:
Why D40

1) CHEAP! Should almost cost nothing if you do not like and sell to other forumers
2) 6MP Sensor --> LOW NOISE! Better than D40x if you do not need the high megapixel. More megapixel --> more noise. The higher the megapixel, the more you need good equipment and a stable pair of hands.
3) Very Basic Camera. Very Easy to use and it is good for beginner. I sincerely will not recommend D300 to newbies.
4) Light weight! You try carrying 4-5kg of equipment in town for 8 hours and you will know what I mean.
5) Even with D90 today, Kenrockwell love this 1. Read his D90 review and also D40 review below

For the condition of the lens filter, I will not give it a 9. A 7 probably. However, I had not tried cleaning it. Anyway, it is a $10 item. Highly usable and will not affect image quality!

ust to clarify

I cleaned my camera after use, but I did not use cloth to rub it hard and thus the lens filter condition is not excellent. As the lens being protected, condition is Excellent.. I did clean the filter a few times with spectacles cloth though. I had not been using the kit lens for some time
