I've posted this on the buy/sell forum, but hopefully more LF-users will see it here.

I'm looking for the above lens or equivalent, such as nikkor sw, or even a schneider 75mm f/5.6.

Preferably with centre filter.

Anyone...pls pm me.

Thanks

hey hey, anyone...

hong sien, are there 2nd hand ones in hong kong? i may make a trip there if so.

call Alan Tan at 62835355 from "Prima Imaging", Schneider lens agent in S'pore. he is clearing some new Schneider LF lenses with reasonable prices. may have the range arround 75mm.

good luck!

hey,

thanks for the info. i though prima imaging was involved in sinar equipment. never knew they brought in schneider lenses.

i know there is another shop in ang mo kio that carries schneider. will try them.

cheers.

fyi, Prima no more agent for Sinar, left a lot of Sinar parts to clear.
his lenses are new, but sale at discount prices. give a try.
I never buy anything from Alan, don't like his style, even his price is OK.
cos I got too many LF lenses.

Try Alan first. In the mean time I wil ask around for the Grandagon 75mm here. There are some used ones too, will check tomollow for you....

Alan is in China till monday. Will ask him then.

I really hope the discounts are good. Anyway, will find out soon.

I actually prefer to buy used, since the LF scene is quite quiet these days, and i'm sure there are people out there who don't even touch their LF because they are too busy with their D70 or something like that.

Hong Sien, my first choice for a 75mm is the nikkor sw, in case you find one. I've heard wonderful reviews of the grandagon-N f/4.5, is it better than the schneider SA?

Hey Panpei,

Too many LF lenses...? Sounds nice.

What do you shoot? Care to share some of your work? I'll be interested to chat LF.

Hi Panpei,

Do you have a used SA 58mm/5.6 XL by the way? How are you now? I have been to Beijing recently, my first time in China, alhough I now live in HK, which s off course China too! Will send you a PM later......

Hong Sien

hey hong sien,

harshan, in singapore is selling the SA 47mm xl with centre filter. price is S$1450 + S$450. i think it is still a little bit negotiable.

interested?

btw, you guys know whether i can use the 75mm lens on my horseman LE with a flat lens board? what about the horseman FA, metal field camera?

thanks so much.

Melvin

Hi Melvin,

47mm may be too wide for architecture shooting. I've read a book on large format by Steve Simmons, he recommended that the widest to go is 75mm before distortion starts.

By the way, even on a 75mm, you will need a centre filter, please take note.

Regards..

Hi Tachi,

I was hoping that i could get away without paying for a centre filter...

i'll test it out if i manage to get a lens, then see how.

btw, did you manage to buy a 75mm in the end?

Hi,

I am back from town....no 75mm lenses, well not the bigger aperture ones. There was a 75mm/8 SA I think for HKD 4000, higher than eBay, so not so good....

There was a Nikkor SW 90mm/4.5 for HKD 8000, also higher than eBay I think....mind you, everything german is high priced here in HK and China and Japan.....not that all german is good, but that's their reputation, lah!

You are using a Horseman LE? Good luck man! 5KG camera, I gave up on it long ago, I am using a Cambo now, 2.5 KG, and same movements but not geared who cares.

yes, you can use a 75mm lens on the Horseman without the recessed lensboards (which are very expensive, and hard to get used on eBay), but you may need a bag bellows (can make your own) to get movements, in fact I still have one for sale if interested (not selfmade one) :-)

...another reason to go for Cambo (easy to get parts, and cheap too, at least now)...easy to get recessed boards...

Yes, you may need a centerfilter for lenses below 90mm generally, unless you don't mind the slight darker corners. BTW, Hoya also sells center filters for lower prices than the original Rodenstock/Schneider.....as long as you don't use it for the 45/47/55/58mm lenses, these are good enough, all Hoya offer 1 stop correction only. I got them from Middle road, the Hoya distributor, forgot the name now (age lah!)....but decided to sell them off for the original ones as I was using a 47mm.

Depending on what you shoot, 47mm is useful, especially if you use a 6x9 or 6x12 back, on 4x5 it is extremely wide (like a 15mm).. perspective is very pronounced then...

I remember Prime has a used 75mm Grandagon in a press shutter forgot the price too....seems I forgot alot of things he!he!

Hi Melvin,

No, I didn't get the 75mm, as the thought of centre filter really put me off. Anyway, 90mm suits me fine on landscape. In fact, I've spend the money on my M6.

Be careful of trying out without centre filter, as most indoor shots will suffer without it. It's like shooting your Summicron 35mm indoor at full open, sometimes you get vignett, sometimes you don't.

By the way, I've been trying out the EPP versus Provia. You are right, EPP is more neutral than Provia, even on green colour in landscape (without that little yellow boost in green for Provia). And in white artifical lighting, you may just require CC10M to correct it, rather than CC30M for Provia. For brown artifical lighting, colour rendition is not a problem for exposure as long as 4 mins at f22.

Regards..

Hong Sien,

Too bad about the 75's, or lack of.

Yes I use the horseman LE, and yes, its very heavy...so much so that it really makes me think carefully before taking it out. but i do like the geared movements. i shoot mostly architecture, so i really like the precision. tho i recently got more interested in the ebony 45SU...with 70mm front rise. that's more than the LE, and the cam is only 2.6kg. i know that will really blow the budget.

thanks but i already use bag bellows on my LE, it's always on. since the longest lens i use on it is 150mm.

how would you get the 47mm xl lens to fit on the LE, max recessed board?

Prime used to have one, but Leslie wouldn't sell it separately from the wista, holders, 6x12 back and 2 other lenses it came with. i was interested in the 6x12 back and 75mm...but alas, it has been sold.

will ask around, maybe ron's, or pro's getting rid of their LF.

Tachi,

i think your money was well-spent on the M6! for landscapes, you can still get away without the 75mm. but when it comes to architecture with limited site or narrow streets, it's difficult. so far, i've been able to handle most work with my 90mm, but you never know when one will come along that requires just a little wider view.

35mm summi got vignetting? i don't seem to have experienced this before.

EPP is great for night shots because of the neutral colors, unfortunately, it needs more exposure for reciprocity failure.

any recommendations for cheap film?

The 47mm is difficult to fit on the LE without recessed boards, cause the standards are thick....make sure the standards are positioned such that the lensboards are the closest to each other, I forgot really if you can use the 47 on the LE......with the Cambo you can easily use the 47mm with recessed boards, bag bellows and still have movements.
