Hi foxwagon, those are really nice pix you got there.

Neways, "Pinoy" is the slang for "Filipino" and Pinas is the slang for "Pilipinas", the country. So it should be WS@Pinas. :-). More info for everybody whale sharks in the Philippines is called "butanding". Have a nice day everyone...

not bad. black sand like lembeh. a lot more macro than bohol, people are more enthusiastic to dive in dumaguete than bohol, and the pier was nice for wide angle photography too ... lembeh might be better though. filipina dive guides dont work as hard, and we saw even more macro in lembeh. so for the same price, lembeh may be worth a revisit more than dumaguete.. but definitely a good experience..

you didnt take any pics at napantau etc hor?

Nope. Didnt take pics at Napantau, shore dives & jetty dives. Focused on the WS only. In fact after the WS, cleaned up the housing & unscrew adaptors/arms already. Also read KTHAN's previous trip reports, the rest of the area same stuff seen before elsewhere liao. Napantau was nice though, nice healthy corals, no trash.

Noted on Dumaguete, will target PG or Malapascua for Pinas next.

Butanding as far as i know is the filipino/tagalog word for it. Googled "ihotiki" and got this..

What may sound like the name of a Polynesian deity is actually a compound noun in the Visayan language of the Central Philippines - 'iho' meaning shark and 'tiki' meaning whale. A whale shark, thus. Watching those enormous creatures has in recent years become a popular sport in the Philippines, and to preserve these huge animals which once were extensively hunted, rigid legislation is now in place.

so ihotiki is one of the dialects of butanding or maybe butanding itself is a dialect

Neways, I'm surprised that butanding's a delicacy... I thought killing of these "butanding" is against the law... :(

Kamusta

We just got back from a Batangas area trip and took some decent digital photos with a small consumer camera but we went there specifically to get some Pro HD videography footage of Pygmy seahorses and ornate ghost pipefish and we were successful.

One of these days wer'e going to get to Dumaguete and Apo reef.

Enjoyed your post-Salamat!

Hi the best month to go there is November till April this is the time those whale sharks feed on the planktons in Donsol area.
We used to organize a trip there when I was still in the Philippines.

If you are planning to go there you can email me at zildjohn@gmail.com
I can refer you to a Non Government Organization and the price is way lower than
those travel agencies.

The Philippines have some of the best dives to be had anywhere in the world.

You know I can't help but wonder, why do you choose this nick. It's like your advertising loudly that you are associated or running another forum. Not too nice to be attracting potential divers in other forums this way right? So uncool...
