Hello Jiven!

I like your photos! makes me feel like i'm back there in netherlands again. it seems you had quite abit of sunshine yourself in winter europe! :)

Hallo!!! Found ur nick very familar.. then checked my inbox... and I realised who you are!!! My fellow detainee at the Netherlands airport!!!

Hmmm... perhaps it's time to tell a story...

This is where the story began...

#63 The setting...... SCHIPOL AIRPORT

The plane landed at 5am, 1/2 hr before the scheduled time. I thought I'll get out of the airport early... but never did I know I'll be detained at the airport for abt an hr.... At first they said my passport photo looks different from how I look now. Then they said they needed to check my passport which will take some time.... Ingendaryl came along... he had the same prob... but somehow, luckier than me cos he got to go off first.... he was nice enough to wait for me outside... was really glad to meet a fellow Singaporean (& clubsnapper) at that point of time.. made me feel a little safer..

I was also a little frightened cos the whole time I kept thinking abt what my sister said to me. She was in Netherlands for 5mths... told me to watch my luggage at that airport cos someone tried to run away with her friend's luggage once. And so, after Ingendaryl left, I requested that my luggage be brought in and thankfully one officer did.

Just because I'm like one of the few asians travelling alone, doesn't mean I'm suspicious lor... Anyway, ended up waiting outside this office near the customs point for an hour with... an african, a filipino and a hispanic.... 4 odd fellas sitting outside the office watching other travellers clear pass the customs, feeling like some sort of criminal / illegal immigrant.... can't help by feel that there's some kind of racial discrimination gg on there.. In the end, I only got out of the airport at around 6.15am. oh well... so much for an early touch down..

#64 ~ THE END ~

I thought that since the trip started on a bad note, I'm in for more.... thank goodness, I had none of that and on the whole it was a very enjoyable stay in the Netherlands...

yah! there were so many people traveling alone .. but they picked on us, harmless singaporeans. and they really really tooked their time to check our passports. actually more like drinking their coffee and chatting rather than check our passports. but at least they were nice about it. :)

jiven, i'm going to shanghai soon. with some luck, i might see snow again. ;)

think this will benefit from a lower vantage, perhaps kneeling down to shoot. you can cover more of the buildings and push them under the arch. the red car is really nice to be in that location.

There is a studio where you can have hands-on activity with some of the ideas Escher experimented with... here's my lame interpretation of Escher's work.. Saw one guy doing it.. haha.. so I followed suit..

very good idea, esp when you put the other picture next to yours. the pattern on the roof are lovely, although the red and blue to the right is a little distracting. it would also be nice if you unroll your sleeve and show more of your skin (brighter).

just a comment, always easier to say retrospectively. at that point of time, who will think of that? anyway, the concept is great, whether original from you or follow suit. good things are to be followed.

jiven,
your photos are beautiful
very nice, clean compositions with very little clutter to distract the viewers' attention.

i have travelled a little bit in Europe and when i look at my photos, i feel like trashing them rightaway.
i remember your Nepal photos and Melbourne ones too. Irrespective of the location you travel to, your work is still fantastic, which says a lot.
Well done. I hope you travel more and shoot more and share your work with all of us. At least I can learn a thing or two... :D

she's very good with sepia, something that i can't do. to some extent, the location and the kind of lines (of different tones on the buildings) also help.

I was also a little frightened cos the whole time I kept thinking abt what my sister said to me. She was in Netherlands for 5mths... told me to watch my luggage at that airport cos someone tried to run away with her friend's luggage once.

that horror story is also common in many parts of the world, esp in some places. many would have heard of luggages missing on train when you dozed off the long trip, but dun be surprised that even on flight (domestic), horror stories of people stealing from your luggage in the cabinet on top, only for you to realise when you reach your hotel and start looking for your stuff.

really awesome photos. i enjoyed viewing them (:

i was in amsterdam 2 weeks ago..it was snowing. in fact...all the water around the windmills had turned to ice!

Actually I did try that, but by doing so, the wide angle lens caused the arc to 'bend' into a horse shoe shape... not very nice.. hence I took it at the angle where there is the least distortion...

I guess they are weary of pple who travel solo... sigh,,,
Think i didn't notice the airport much after what happened.. no mood mah...
But I really find their train schedule very troublesome.. maybe it's just diff...

hello there...thks for the photos..i have a niece who have emigrated there last march, working at shell in Hague. AM planning to go over next year for a visit. Mind telling me how u plan for this trip, the lodging and teh cost for flight etc?

#56 Escher's Museum[/B]
One of my favourite things to do in Den Haag... Spent quite some time here. For those who do not know Escher, he's the guy who comes up with drawings that involve patterns and distorted perspectives... (from one angle, the stairs seem to be heading upwards but from another angle, they seem to be going downwards).
