Thank you pbear1973, I am leaning to Lumix leh. hehe

You're welcome! I'm enjoying my Lumix! One caveat though: the GF3 only has a pop-up flash with no hotshoe or accessory port. Therefore no external flash or remotes. And the 14-42mm lens can cast a shadow if you use the pop-up flash.

If that's important to you (e.g. you do a lot of night portraits) you might want the GF2 instead or one of the Olys. Slower autofocus, larger form-factor but easier to grip and can support external flashes.

Huh, GF3 can cast a shadow if use pop-up flash with 14-42mm lens.
Like that I need to think twice liao and thank you for sharing this important info.
Headache, want to compliment my Nikon D90 with a more compact camera also so difficult, haiz.

Haha no problem. Go for the GF2 or the Olympus E-PL3. Or can also consider the Sony NEX-C3. The only thing is that the NEX-C3 uses an APS-C sensor so that means that the lenses are pretty large. But of course low-light performance is very much superior to any micro 4/3.

And if you happen to own a money printing press or an oil well, you can opt for the Leica M9 with 50 mm Noctilux f/0.95. Total price about US$18,000. :p But for that you get excellent Leica glass, and a full-frame sensor in a compact body. :D

My main reason for choosing the GF3 is that I use it for daytime street photography, so the flash is not needed. Instead I needed something that is small, light and discreet so that people don't realize I'm taking their pictures. The other cool thing about the GF3 is that you can take a picture by tapping on the screen so it really looks like you're reviewing a picture instead of taking one. :D

For nights I use my D7k instead, which would mostly not need flash because of the excellent noise control up to ISO6400.

If the Nikon is selling these cheaper by at least 20% and I do not own a m4/3, I will get one as a second camera.

Ha.. 1 way is to buy a nikon flash, set to slave and use the mirrorless pop up to trigger the flash. so u can use that for your mirrorless camera and your D90. hahaha...

well. jokes aside, think I read somewhere that EP3 is pretty solid, with fast AF, can attach ext flash and VF3, pretty good review comparing to EPL3 and others.

J316 has both v1 j1 now. Love the feel and build of v1.. Double lens kit around $1.2k... A bit over priced...

What's the price of the F-mount adapter? Anyone care to share?

The sensor is much smaller than m4/3 and the cameras are more expensive. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. :( At $1.2k can buy an entry-level APS-C DSLR liao.

Yes the V1 feels very solid in hand. I do agree the price is a bit on the high side though. The EP3 might look to be better value at this point in time, but you still need to get an external VF for it.

My concern is that small sensor = poor low light performance. They are directly related right?

aiyo.... patience is a virtue..... wait a bit lar.... it will come down if the sales is as flat as a runway.........

Yes. Smaller sensor=>less detection surface per pixel=>less current generated for a given light level=>more amplification=>more noise=>more noise removal=>loss of detail.

It's also why megapixel wars on 1/2.5" compacts are completely silly.

The survey showed most of us are wise man,not fool by Nikon.
Nikon it fool itself with a no attractive point 2.7x for no attractive price.Only because of Nikon name.

No way i will buy the V1 & J1.....price is too ridiculous to me.

It's probably attractive for those who are still using point and shoot nikons, and these series are a jump to them

how would a j1 compare to an old dslr like the d80 or d90 in terms of noise?

Yes why not? Compare to the price of Housing, Car, ERP makan at gourmet restaurant etc, this is nothing much. :p

With the same price, it might be better to jump to DSLR.

Brought my g/f to see the unit, but she found it quite heavy. So she will just stick to her PnS and DSLR.

It is all relative. The weight compared to the D3s and D700 which I have is nothing at all.

Actually when I travel, DSLR are out for me.

Anyway to each his/her own.
