Will you buy original or 3rd party battery?

i also feel that if u hv a highend like 5d2 ... u better off for original as u are risking too much if the batt explodes !!

but for those with 450D , 500D, even a D90 .. i think 3rd party is still worth the risk (which is very low anyway if u buy good brands 3rd party batt)

I share yr mentality. With my 400D, I have 1 original, 5 sets of 3rd party. Only 3 functioned properly while the other two were deemed useless after 5mths+.
I fear the reliability more than anything as I tend to (I know not advisable) to leave the batt in my camera. Sekali anything happen like leaking or malfunction, my new baby will get it so for now I'm getting the oily-ginal and making a concious effort to remove battery when not in use.

i use DIVIPOWER battery and its realiable, i remember once i bought it and it does not last evevn 1 year and i goes back to the shop and the shp owner told me that DIVIPOWER battery all comes with a 1 year warranty and the shop owner change it for me FOC.

original batteries get my vote, tried an LP -E6 from phottix, worked well in the first 2 months but konked out after that resulting in me buying the original one back again and wasting

are you sure? i am using Divipower on my 500D. canon orig batt can shoot up to 600-800 photo in raw but Divipower max 400plus on raw. i not sure if you face this?

i have used third party batteries (ATT branded) on my 40D any it last only 6 months until it cannot be recharge anymore and the original one still in good performance from the time that i bought the 40D until now... i suggest you better to buy the original one, the price it worth the performance either the long lasting age

Totally agree. I had the same prob with you too. that is on my 350D, Now i am getting the original battery.

Hi all,

My 1000D gets an Error99 many times till I have to send it to CSC. The technician at CSC state that it is due to the malfunctioning power circuit board.

I cannot confirm that this is due to the third party battery that I'm using. But the Err99 occurs when I have 1 original LPE5 battery and a 3rd party battery used side by side in my battery grip. I got the 3rd party battery from CP.

Learning from this incident, I decided to save up for original batteries only.

A third party battery I had worked fine in Singapore. I brought it to England with me when on holiday and it was winter. It died there. The Canon original was still fine. So now I only get original.

I'll go for original, although a lot here may go for 3rd parties. I understand that it's expensive to go for original, but when dispute come with Canon when there is an issue with the body, then CSC cannot put the blame on 3rd party batteries, cos I use all original mah. ;p

Now i owned a 50D with a Phottix battery grip. The question is...

1. will the 3rd party battery grip reduce the life of my original canon batteries (BP-511A)
2. will the grip damage the 50D after long usage?
3. is it better to use phottix batteries with the grip?
4. how safe is it to mix third party batteries with original canon ones?

I used to use 3rd party battery. But a bad experience from using 3rd party battery for my Nokia phone make me think twice in future about getting 3rd party batter. The battery that I bought got into problem that it got bloated and possibly short circuit my phone. I do not want the same thing happen to my camera as well.

I have asked about mixing too, but I guess no one really knows. Well, I have tried before, it was safe because camera is ok. The 3rd party battery died soon after that, so maybe it is not safe for the 3rd party batt.

Just came back from MS.
An original batt cost $120 while a Divipower cost $30.
Shop says 1 year warrant but only in instances when the batt cannot charge at all. So if the batt life becomes very short, they may choose not to exchange for you.
Bought 1 as back up anyway.

Don't want to take the risk of having to 'live to regret' if the 3rd party batt kills my 5DMkII.
Even for the 20D, i am using original only.

I have three 3rd party batt costing about $25 each. Used them for about 4 months or so and their strength deteriorate to 1/3 the original Canon that I have.

I've decided that for my next camera I will still buy at least two 3rd party for back-up and at least 1 spare original.

That sounds like good risk management- I've been using both 3rd parties and original and performance wise, 3rd party is same if not better. But one thing's for sure, at 3 times more expensive, originals are definitely not attractive.

U may wish to try reputable 3rd parties (there are a couple in the market at 1/3 price), and so far, no DSLR batteries have exploded yet, with the exception of Nokia handphone batteries...

If so lucky as to explode in the cam, can go back to the distributor and Canon and try to get something back. U'll likely get some compensation, as the Press will be very happy to highlight your case and everyone will be watching how Canon/Nikon and the OEM will handle the case. OEM and original manufacturers have a dependant relationship and it will only benefit them both more if their equipment syncs well with each other.

I bought a 3rd party and the batt is flat in less than 1 hr! Buy the original. I've since bought an originl batt and never once regret it.
