Will you buy a Nikon D60 Special (Black Gold) Edition if it's true?

For the rest of us, we will just get more or better lenses
Functionality beats looks...Most of the time...
Why not have both with the D3?:bsmilie:

To be fair, vanity is a big thing. Using your analogy, why would people buy tiffany rings when SK and Taka rings cost just a fraction of Tiffany prices?
Sometimes, it goes beyond usability and practicality.

You are right, vanity is a big thing, that's why if one is going for vanity, go and buy some rings because rings are vanity in the first place. Love doesn't need ring. Ring is just for show. In the realm of photography, it's the output of the pictures that people WOW at, at the end of the day. If a photographer wanna fancy on vanity, fancy on the vanity that the pictures brings to others. These will last forever in the mind of people, but vanity of the look of the camera will only last as long as the fashion is there. D2X or all those past flagships of Nikon are WOW when they are still hot in the market, now we have D3, Canon's 1Ds mark III, so tomorrow we might have D3X and D4...5..6...

So these kind of vanity are not worth the $ at all, if a photographer wanna show off his D60 in gold black, I will throw a bar of gold into his face. A bar of 99% gold shines better and worth alot more.

well folks...

here's the confirmation screen shot of an inventory sheet showing D60 Black Gold body as listed...

looks like Nikon is doing it

Why are some of the text in a brighter shade of green and sharper than the rest?

Is it wrong to prefer a camera in black instead of a camera in silver?
Is is wrong to prefer a limited edition camera instead of a non-limited edition?

I do not think people will buy a special edition D60 just for the "wow" factor so people can stare at it and say "so beautiful". The reason for their purchase is probably for personal enjoyment.

On a side note, the silver D60 looks terrible.

Hi,

I think 'limited editions' will appeal to people's crave for individualism, it is so common where some college kids will brag to the friends "Dude, I got me a limited edition XXX, I only pay YYY dollars for it, why settle for the production model, when you can use a limited edition." Key word being 'limited', where besides being limited also means more pricey.

I know of people who would buy 2 of the 'limited Edition" item, 1 for keeping in mint state, not in use; while the other is actually used, so that others will take note that this guy is using a Limited Edition, which tend to satisfy their need to be recognized as 'being above the rest.'

I mean the modern society is so bent on elitism, a D60 limited Edition will have the highest profit generated, as being the cheapest to make, but selling for top money, finally the Nikon Marketing Machine is working in overdrive, as Nikon's marketing almost certainly lacking in most branding excercises.

I am sure a person who buys such a camera would most certainly know next to nothing about photography, almost certainly has nothing in photgraphy skill, but is more interested in showing their symbol in photography and probably rich too!

Welcome to the Elite, Uuuuaaarrrggghhh!! Wop!

Individualism feeds on self-centeredness, which is unfortunately a common trait in people these days. So if you want to stand out from the crowd, have a cam to haolian, bai swee, a cam in limited edition will serve this purpose. But everyone else knows that the cam won't instantly give you extraordinary pictures in any way.

Then again, it is said to be limited. How limited? Fixed at 100,000 units can also be called limited. And the next thing you know, there are 99,999 people sharing that same type of cam with you. You won't appear to be that exclusive. Hence in light of relative exclusivness, it is dependent on quantity. As the quantity is not known, it is safe to treat this as a pure marketing ploy.

Well lets just recap my posting, I have never say them WRONG. I'm not in the position to judge if they are wrong or right. Being me, I merely put in my personal opinions, hence is considered SUBJECTIVE, I'm not going to say I'm a role model for photography for I might get whack by a D60 the next day ? hahah but I'm going say a simple fact.

I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY!

I love my D300 and since I can afford abit more, I am turning to D3 soon. But you will never find me turning to a D3 gold limited edition if there exist one.
Subjectively, I WANT you to appreciate my works (wink wink), not how my camera looks.
To be frank, if I were to really wanna compare, I will show off my D3 right infront of the D60 limited edition and tell that fellow. "Hey! who gives a damn about that limited edition D60, mine can capture at 9fps or I can bum up to ISO6400 and still makes crispy pictures"

That FACT, I won't even utter such words in front of someone that owns a LE D60, reason being simple. I like the works and I like the camera capable of producing that piece of works for me, not how that camera is limited or special.

If it has to be special, I rather the special is sentimental instead of purely materialistic (^.^)

All being said, if "he" likes the LE D60, why not, it's "his" choice.
I'm sure alot of photographers in this forum cherish their works more, and will take care of their investment mainly they hope they will function longer and produce more stunning works for them in the future.

Soon, these bodies and lens, no matter LE or non-LE will be replaced by technologies whether you are willing or not. One can hold on to their master piece from Nikon 10 years ago and say I have made fantastic works with this piece of junk. I will say "Show me the works", I'm more interested in the works.

Last but not least, HAPPY SNAPPING !!!

Contrary to most posters and you here, I think the primary factor that drives people to buy LE D60s will be the colour, not the aim to wave it around like a trophy. ;p
The people who buy LE cameras for the sake of the word "Limited Edition" will not be going for a D60. I highly doubt it. The way of thinking is not the same. A D60 is just not exclusive enough for them.

That said, if I see someone going around showing off his LE D60 I'll be hard pressed not to laugh. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Ok. Enough psychobabble from me today.

No.. Looks quite ugly.. ;p

I will rather buy an old mechanical RF or film camera for collection than this :thumbsd:

Yeah... Weak efforts - Minimal input (to achieve the gold coloured trims), Maximum output (if the additional $50 adds up, it could be quite substantial)...
