Another thing you should be looking for is if there's alternative Olympus Authorized service depots that honour Olympus' warranty. People in the United States, as well as those living in Canada have the option of sending it to Olympus in California, or Olympus in New York, but Canadians also have the option of sending their camera to five service depots across Canada!

Maybe next time I bring all the required service to Olympus Singapore.

I may stay in 4/3 depending on what Panasonic have to offer in the future. As for Olympus, the current E-500 would most likely be my last.

The worst case scenario would be I move totally away from 4/3.
Blu, I had no idea you had an E-500 also, just like I had no idea that you sold your main landscape camera. So, for now, Good bye Olympus and Hello Olympus at the same time.

I am not sure sending the camera to different depots would do any difference. I don't know if it is the same elsewhere, bu at least, here in Europe there are very few places where they actually service dSLR and dSLR equipment. Yes, there are quite a few depots where I can sent my camera, lenses or flash. All of them send everything with a service tag to a central Oly center in Stockholm, 600km to the north. All they do in Stockholm is do a quick check like battery, connectors, looking through lenses and maybe take a few test shots. If a screwdriver is needed than they send it to Portugal or the Chech Republic, depending on if it is the lens or the camera that needs to be serviced. So, in the end, every camera or lens is serviced the same place. The plus side is that they have a higher competence than if all small centers would service everything. But it absolutely makes no difference where I drop in with my camera. Again, that is Europe, so it may not be the same streamlined service organization elsewhere in other regions, but again, it may be similar. I am actually happy the way it is, even if up until the end of last year was even better for me personally, since the Swedish service center was very near me, so I could just drop in any time. Not so anymore. Still the service turn around is usually only one week but never more than three.

As far as I know, C & N has much longer repair times. While Canon has many more shops where you can send or drop in the camera, their service organization actually works the same way except the much longer turn around time. So, yes, I guess grass is always greener on the other side until you get there.

Uncle Olyflyer...I just got the E-500 about 2 week back. It was a swap for the "banding" E-330. So I am now with a E-500. This is not something by Olympus but a kind fellow forumer that wanted the E-330 (with all it's banding) that did the swap with me. So now I am trying to get use to the peeping thru the VF :( I am really not use to the landscape shooting this way. :(

Honestly Blu, I say ditch Olympus too, since the representative office in Malaysia sux (I never thought I would say this). I am surely going to point the folks in Oly Japan to this thread when I head over there the next time. This is total rubbish man. It is like losing a brother in here, if you get what I mean? This is pure nonsense!

What should I say? Welcome to Oly. I understand your swap, not easy to sell of everything since there is always the money loss issue. I guess you kept your glasses and flash. I agree, the E-500 is not the best landscape camera after the LV E-330, it needs a bit of practice and getting used to. I think the E-510 would be a bit better even if it does not have the swinging LCD. I am sorry you could not make Oly to see the problem and fix your camera. I understand your disappointment also. I have a Citroen (as you know) and because I had a lot of minor issues with that car AND the service organization and customer service is terrible, I will never buy another one in my life. But that is really OT.

I just wish you good luck in your next selection of camera. Also I am personally happy with Olympus service and the way they handle things. As far as I know, Oly Malaysia seems to be an isolated problem and never heard anything like that from elsewhere. As a matter of fact, the reason why I chose the E-500 and not the D70 as my first dSLR was:

1. Possibility to use all my old OM gear
2. SSWF
3. Very good personal experience with Olympus
4. Working world wide service organization
5. True international warranty and service support

The last two may unfortunately not be valid for Malaysia.

Oh the warranty is recognized here. Just that the way it's being handled.

I think the service engineer have his hands tied too. He tried his best but all those red tape the poor guy had to go through. I can't blame him for anything but the lack of communication between the HQ and the service would be to blame. He did mention many times that he have sent emails to HQ but no replies. I think I believe him cause I sent an email to HK after the email from a Hyodo San but not a single reply from HK.

How long I continue using Olympus would depend on what the competition have to offer in the near future.

My requirements is still the same Articulated LiveView and Sensor cleaner. ( Image Stability is secondary but would be have to have on long lens.) It's a matter of time before the others catch up with that basic requirements.

As of now, I got to get use to the E-500.
