As the title suggests....

nope. its never a cheap hobby to begin with and the price hike just went to 07 pricing. so no big deal. if cannot afford a buying spree right now, then try to max out the current equipment then. i am sure by the time one do, it shld be 2-3 yrs later.

Neither too. Other Japanese systems are also having price hikes.

Change to what brand? The hike is across the board.

can always hold off buying and shoot with what you have.. hopefully the heat will be upon them when less pple buy their lenses.

nikon also hike 20%...

Switching brands will cost more than the price hike from Canon, and the increase in prices is mainly due to the current SGD vs JPY exchange rate.

It's just that the Yen has gone up.

it is funny that everyone have been saying that it is because yen have gone up.
won't that make other "made in japan" appliances prices go up too..not only camera stuffs?
i still see LCD TV made in japan tumbling instead of going up. :dunno:

i thought nikon's stuff is made from thailand, canon from malaysia or taiwan?

How come the yen is affecting the price?

Sorry i am business-stupid.

Doesn't matter where they're made as long as the brand belongs to them. Canon's DSLRs are made in japan. Higher-end compact prosumers and PnS are also made in japan while the lower-end ones in china. Canon's 50 f/1.8 II is made in m'sia but used to be in japan.

perhaps it is becos it is a diff industy ...
etc
LCD tv is dominated by Sony (jap) Samsung (Korea) Pansonic (Jap) etc

noting that Samsung is a korea brand, won has weaken frm 700+ vs 1SGD to 900+ vs 1SGD
price shld have fell by 20% for samsung

also noting that LCD tv has new models every now and then, this revision, i believe is faster than lens revision.

at least for LCD, i think samsung can afford to cut its price to kill of the jap competitors :bsmilie:

Think. Don't you most probably have to spend more changing system than dealing with price hikes???

Doesn't make any sense

? How does it help in saving costs? It not like phone operators who will give us freebies and discounts when we threaten to change operators.
Anyway, the hike is not limited to Canon.

Even a superbike use to cost $24K on Dec 08 , now cost $30K :bheart: Also 20% hike

Yes I will change to a Made in Singapore Brand (if there is any) :sweatsm:

If wanna change, will not be because of it ... :)
