Last night I was shooting a wedding for a friend. When I went home to upload the photo, my new transcend CF card (8GB 133X) hang while transferring. After hanging, the card cannot be open, format or read! I was like shocked and paniced. I had format the card in my camera before use so it shouldn't an issue. Though I manage to recover most of the file through a very long process, I will never use Transcend. It has never happen to any of my Sandisk card I used before. Imagine if I could not retrieve the file.

Lesson learnt: Cheaper isn't better. :nono:

How did you upload the pics? Using a card reader or via the camera directly?

actually...what i would have done is limit myself to about 4GB per card irregardless the capacity. That way the damage is spread out. The more important the job, the lesser...ever few times i capped my cards at 1GB.

Used a card reader. Just to mention that was the 3rd card I used. I finish a 2GB and a 4GB ;p

Its a nightmare when such a thing happens, i guess its better to stick to brands like sandisk, lexar

yup, sandisk & lexar is the way to go... you get what you payed for...

I used a 8G Kingston card on holiday, and Error99 appeared on my camera! Lucky I only lost the last 2 pics

I'll prob stick to Sandisk from now on.

I have several of the Transcend 8GB and no problems so far. I think it's all a matter of luck. Not everything expensive works either. So be sure to format and test your memory card before using it for an important job. Cheers.

Just stick with sandisk. Transcend and Lexar known to have problems with canon.

im not sure if its a problem with my Transcend 4gb CF card, or my camera.. but sometimes after taking a shot, it shows up for a while on the screen, but when i try to review it again, its not saved on the card.. happened quite a few times already. oh well..

did u shot in raw? and use to max of the card?

No, I shot in JPEG and was only on my 300-400 shot, less than 50% of the card's capacitiy was used.

I'm just using a normal 4GB kingston on my trusty 40D...no issues :)

yet to try out the 16GB or 8GB i hope it will survive.

Error 99 normally related to shutter and lens connection problems, not card problems...

thread moved to consumer since it has nothing to do with canon.

and to be fair, this happens on all media - transcend or otherwise. a search will reveal even sandisk or lexar will fail. it happens. not that we want it or like it. but, it does.

yup... i had the lexar with a known problem to cause problem and had a recall, but din have time to change it and till now (touch wood) no problem... probably i seldom shoot thats why...

transcend so far no problem. i guess what you could do is to not do anything more to the card, instead, try to do data recovery on another system and card reader to be on the safe side.

so far no issues and i have used them not only with camera but also with video camera.

It all boil down to luck.

Den I muz be damn "heng" with Transcend. The first time I ever use it I had a prob! haha ;p

I was told once to avoid 8 GB cards as the speed slows down once you reach capacity. Not sure if it's still true? If so, you may have to wait for the download, as the transfer may appear to 'hang' while downloading.
