The constant f/4.0, 77mm diameter front which can put filters on are technical advantages, not relative opinions that is placed under 'advantages'. Just the constant, bigger aperture has made many (including Canon users btw) to pay for it on other lenses...

I am more convinced on getting the sigma 12-24.. the lens construction and image reproduction is way about what Sigma has done in many years. Also.. the fact it is usable on my film bodies.. and is not a DX lens is another plus point.

Contant aperture is not always a real selling point.. I believe that the 4.5-5.6 is a just a trade off. An example to me is the 24-120 AFS-VR.. its selling point is the VR.. yes even though this lens has no VR.. but with wide angles.. VR is almost not necessary.. just my ranting..

Thanks for sharing. May I know what aperture was this shot at?

To be honest, I can't remember. But should be f/11 or f/16 as the sky was extremely bright.

You know, it's taken me this long to figure out that my name was in the first line of this thread...

Erm... why? :bsmilie:

Like I said in the original thread as well, if you have film cameras, then getting the Sigma is a no brainer. I've sold my last film body but I have a full frame digital, so I have the same problem. I'm waiting for the D1x replacement to show itself, confirm that it is DX, and then switch over completely to DX lenses. I've been going on about this for sometime, but ultimately, full frame is a legacy I don't need.

Agree  If you have film or FF DSLR, then the Sigma is the way to go about it as you can use it for both types of bodies. However, if you only have or will have only DX FLMs, then... :D

so any recommended wide angle lens for a d70? budget around $1000?

Why not consider the fisheye 10.5mm and Nikon capture.
You get special lens (fisheye), really wide if you need it and 14mm (not sure if this is correct) with the Nikon capture correction. 2 lens in 1.

Yes i know the scan is not >6mp. :p

the barrel distortion? how bad is it?
the last building on the right side seems off...

If you ask me the Sigma has very little distortion for vertically aligned subjects. As with other ultra wides, you get some distortion at the sides when your subject is not aligned in the same vertical plane as you. (not sure if I'm explaining it correctly but I hope you understand). In wibawa's picture, I suppose his camera was tilted at an angle from vertical axis and that's why the building on the right looks distorted. I think this is just a peculiarity of ultra wides that photographers need to take note of when using them.

yes, it seems so that for a super wide at 12-24, it has indeed very good distortion control.

since so many of u expressed an interest in this lens, anyone has the price of a brand new lens?
