why no A580 in singapore?

Read a bit higher and you'll have your answer. The local market is very "gadget crazy" and the A55 is constantly sold out. Consumer demand for the A580 has been almost ZERO except from some "in the know" Sony folks. The A55 on the other hand is in crazy demand. So why should Sony import it?

OIC, So Sony know they wouldn't be able to sell A 580 well in Singapore ,that is why they must as well don't bring it in to this local market. That I can understand now.:D

The demand is current A55 type camera la. Earning good money liao, so why spoil it by bringing in another camera body?

afaik, all South East Asian countries do not have any official A560 and A580 on the market.
Maybe the Sony's policy as they want to focus on A55 as the new weapon of the game ? :dunno:

Not sure what is defined as official market, but A580 is available in Msia (a part of SEA countries). It has a valid local warranty if u buy one. However, you wont find that camera on Sony Malaysia website. If you want, you can find a580 on the HK sony website with price listed.

The time frame between a55/a33 release and a580/a560 is not significant. Not all who bought a55 may want to sell it after a short time to get a580 (if i have a $ tree, then i will, but i dont). That being said, sony release way much more cameras in a short span to my liking (it causes me frustration if i always want to chase technology), but its a boon to many other people who loves new technologies.

I believe sony strategy is well placed (but who am i to say). Like bro lenrek said, earning good money liao, why wanna spoil it? Any logical person with a profit in $ would not want to do this. They also know people can just cross over the border and get it in JB.

actually the A580 and A55 are very different cameras. They are not even the same kind of camera....

It just goes to show how much sony really cared about our singapore market. I mean it is like nikon not selling their D7000 camera in singapore.

I mean if they can do this to A580, they can do this to any new release. There is no longer any confidence from the consumer in Singapore that they can actually buy the latest Alpha camera in singapore.

I thought it was a really bad move by Sony. I mean look at samsung... do you think they sell tons of NX11??? At least you feel better than you have a good chance of getting NX20, or NX30 in the future.

Actually a580 is just a a550 upgrade. Agree that it's different from slt. But considering sales cannibalization , they will just want to push slt. Which is their up and coming technology.

From a market perspective it makes alot of good sense to focus on one key product lime then launch so many products and confuse their buyers.

D7000 is nikon long awaited apcs replacement. Definitely they will launch worldwide. Samsung mirrorless cameras are new entrants of course they will launch in Singapore.

Sony has been exploring the market and slt is their chosen mascot to push for market share.

The MAIN improvement in D7000 is the sensor. The A580 also has the same much improved sensor over the A550. This is not a "grip" improvement like the some of the sony DSLRs.... I am quite surprised Sony Singapore did not launch this considering how different it is to the A550.

Are all Sony users (in singapore at least) required to convert to SLT? If I am a sony user who doesn't like SLT, won't I be pissed off if Sony SINGAPORE refuses to launch anymore non-SLT cameras?

BTW, NX11 from samsung is 99% identical to the NX10 which they launched a few months back.....

Well Sony made clear they will be pushing slt as far as they can. Ovf lovers will be pissed. I am a fan of ovf as I am loving my a850 viewfinder so much.

A55 has the Same sensor as d7000 and a580. End of the day guess it's the size Singapore market.

besides Samsung's fooling customers with just a +1 to the model name...

i'm not being biased here, but you and i and the rest of us Sony users.. each one of us is just one consumer in the entire world of 6 billion. and in singapore, just one out of about 6 million. like the other bros mentioned, it doesn't make business sense to actually confuse your consumers. by focusing on a niche, it's been proven in businesses around the world that it does help with profits.

just my 2 cents ;)

Fully agree with you. Sony Singapore indeed have disappointed her royal customers. :sticktong

If Malaysia can sell well on the A580, so can Singapore.
It is also a marketing error to produce and launched so many cameras at the same time (e.g A33+A55 , A560+A580 etc) and not follow through ....

If they have so little faith in SG, then why base here ? Might as well pull out and base only in Malaysia.
How would you feel if A77 will not be launched here ? I wouldn't be surprised if they don't though I hope not.

Just my 2 cents and personal opinion.

Bingo like the way u put it.The feeling is nothing of royalty, even if u happen to be a pro Sony lover. It is a two different systems but Sony prefer to defer.Singapore market is too small for them. But why are they here to sell SLT?????

You're taking it to an extreme. You think that just because Sony does not sell the A580 here and instead focused on releasing it in HK, China and the USA, the big markets, that they are pulling out of SG entirely? What utter and total rubbish nonsense.

Think of it as basic maths:

1. Let's say that out of every 100 DSLR cameras, sony can sell 95 A55 units and 5 A580 units (remember, it's the A55 getting all the press). So it makes sense for Sony to put more production on the A55.
2. Now, remember that Sony has guaranteed supply contracts with Nikon for the D7000 and Pentax.
3. So if Sony only has so many sensors left over, why create and maintain 2 separate product lines in a relatively small market, when it it already totally selling out of A55 and A580 units in Hong Kong and the USA? Why divert supplies from already sold-out markets to a small market? Makes no business sense.

If Sony had more production capacity (and they are in the middle of expanding, remember), they would produce more A55 and A580 and then supply to more markets. But as it is now, their supplies are constrained, so they have to focus on the markets they *know* are selling well.

i just feel.. this shows who has business sense and who hasn't.

the only reason why there's so much fanfare over C and N's new mid-range releases is because it's been quite long since a new model emerged.

besides, it's only a short trip down to JB to get the A580 (sans warranty).

if you're worried about how much the A580 will break down, shows just how much faith you have in your own gear.

O00000000000.Did I says they are pulling out of Singapore entirely? ....................Look at wat u says is the A 580 market is not big enough and only known to a few handful Sony users,so presumably Singapore is not attractive to launch the says camera, what confuse me is they are selling SLT Model with A 33 & A 55 at a very short period of times not mention about Nex 3 and nex 5.So why are they not selling A 580 as well. What utterly:thumbsd: rubbish did i say others than confuse.

I thought many had explained this for many times? I don't understand why people are jumping up-and-down for a model that is not being market here. This is not the 1st time Sony did this.

I think u guys must ask SONY GM why they don't sell A580 here in SG to stop all these skeptism.

Its very hard to just to make story out of our own observation/analysis without knowing the reality behind all the gossips.

If sony don't want to bring in some products here for sure they have reasons that will be advantage to their business.

If die die must get this model then go JB lah, why make your life difficult, enjoy life, enjoy photography...

I think Sony SG marketing people not ready interested selling DSLR camera??? From beginning still now. They more focus on Viao and TV...

That's because Bravia and vaio branding in the LCD and laptop segments are strong. The turnover for those pdts are much higher as well. Anyway pointless to discuss this a580 anymore.

There are slot of models that are nit released in sg and not just restricted to Sony a580.
Toyota wish was initially not brought in by Borneo motors but was made avail through parallel import.

Yes bait sad to know that a model was skipped in sg, but no big deal. I will only be mad if they do t launch the a77 here .....

actually i wonder what the purpose of these complaining members are. one of them has asked for opinions in another sub-forum about changing his gear. while the other few will OT in unrelated topics and start bashing Sony.

if they don't like Sony, why complain? there're many other brands to choose from.
