Why Lens are expensive here in Singapore?

Not really lah.... I think Lowepro and some other bag maker have bags that fits one super telephoto lens + camera.... just bring back as if you when for a photo shoot. Mail the rest of the stuff like the box and pouch back to S'pore....

As long as you have only 1 set/kind of lens with you, example, 1x 800mm, 1x 24-70mm, 1x70-200mm .... you could always claim that you bring these overseas with you. Its when you have 2 or more set that makes it likely you are bring them in for sale....
I like your dark-side ;), if i will go and buy from there then will use this method .

actually diver-hloc is right, you wont be charged with gst if you brought it by your self unlike if you let the shops ship it to singapore.

Was looking for 800L and called Cathey, gave me quote of 19,300$.
I also contacted someone in Philippine and was quote 10,500 USD ~ 14,622 SGD.
I didn't understand why asking price here is almost 5K higher than Philippine?

Not bad arh can go there holiday plus buy lens... one stone kill many brids....

But if you decided to go through RED zone then you need to pay, no? Unless they find your behaving funny and they ask you that they want to scan items.

What is the BMW 7 series so expensive here? US cost only S$60K. Singapore cost almost S$250K?:dunno:

There are lot of factors why car price is expensive here in Singapore than US. But frankly speaking how many time have you seen huge price different between normal lens here in SG and US? Don't tell me 800L in Singapore is made of Gold and US is Silver.

hmmm, could be. But at the end of the day, maybe this thread could be helpful for those who only know 2 source SG/US ;).

Well, the markup is higher as Singapore rental is much higher including staff salary, everything is high comparing with other countries and also it could be the transfer price between countries are different.

We should help to post reliable source prices so that we know what are we getting from those outlet in Singapore.

I would love to buy from Singapore (to increase local sale). But man 4+K different is difficult to swallow. But i totally agreed with your comment on staff salary + rental. I just wanted to see if other ppl who bought bigger lens bought from local shops, coz i will be not the only one who window shop before buying real item :sweatsm:.

I bought my 200F2 from US for US$4800 from B&H. Get people to hand carry in back for Singapore. So no need shipping and GST.

Good for you, no one will carry 800L for me .

I thought cheapest is to buy from HK or Bangkok.

Getting from B&H sometimes can be cheaper because you avoid their local tax too! (If you ship the items out of NYC, and shipping is free within US)

I have no experience of bangkok but i'm from Hong Kong, and if you know cantonese you can get lenses at very very good prices ;) +1 for victorlee10, eg, I got a quote from john 3:16 for EF70-200 f2.8L IS II lens of 3200 SGD, in HK i got it (after bargaining) for 14,500 HKD for lens, and 1111 HKD for each TC, in singapore dollars that is 2591 for lens and 199 for TC.
