Sorry bro for edited my last post , since after re-read i just understand.

What i know, yes , it is not easy be a moderator ( i was a mod at a small online forum) , especially in this large forum such as clubsnap. But when user see how can people asking shovel can passed in kopitiam , but his question about laptop charged was closed. Of course, will bring the big question mark.

Of course all of that can happened in any forum ;) probably because of change of policies, or the moderator on that time, or other things.

personally , i agree with the mod , if not the kopitiam will full with the questions , where to buy "this", "that", "those", etc .... kind of threads.

laptop and charger are not designed primarily for photography.

note that by "chargers" CS means camera/flash battery chargers. not laptop chargers

Like most of us agree, the Moderators have a hard time. But I hope I have moved on in technology. I can remember in the old days when one has to be almost a chemist to get the right picture. In those days the questions on photography would be where to buy this and that chemical, not to mention trays to immerse the negatives and clothes pegs to dry them. I guess it would be just as weird to advertise for these items now in a photography forum as much as a spade and shovel. I just wish more of us would be more tolerant and open minded especially to new technology which has blurred what is and not photography. Who would have thought only a few years ago that I would throw most of my yellowing albums of photographs for a hard drive.

to answer the old questions, my answer would be ruby photo, i used to buy most of my supplies from there

about advertising those items here, you would be surprised to know that we have lots of people who still shoot film

Photography-related items are those items that are primarily designed to be used in the course of creating your images (whether digital or film), thus, by using the above definition the following items will qualify as photography-related:-

Film/Digital Cameras (SLRs, Point & Shoots, Digicams, Video Cameras), Flashes, Studio paraphernalia, tripods, ballheads, lenses, filters, films, camera bags, batteries, chargers, CF Cards/Readers, Photo Printers (note word Photo), Digitising tablets, Scanners (slide/film and specialised flatbeds), Darkroom equipment.

Items NOT Allowed in Buy & Sell and will be moved:-
PCs, Monitors, disk drives, CD/DVD-writers.

The two lists are by no means exhaustive and will be updated from time to time.

Precisely, so it begs the question when is a hard drive a photo album. A memory card is allowed to be advertised as a photography item but not a hard drive that is holding my life’s work of photographs not to mention video. In the old days a tray of chemicals change the outlook of my photos. Now it is that new fangled laptop and its software that is doing the same thing.

that would mean that usb cables, mouse, keyboards, printers, laptop bags, laptop batteries, what about ram too... ... ... will all be allowed too?

i hope you can see the light now

All your above item I would allow on the Kopitiam forum. And once they become photography items in the course of new technology, they should be included in the relevant photography section. The hard disk was not a photography item in the days when it was only a few gigs, but now it very much is. We all use to laugh and said these digicams were toys and will never catch on when they were only a few pixels, the rest is now history.
I for one will only be enlighten if there are proper answers with clear and precise guidelines to the forums.

If we wish to nit pit what can be in the Kopitiam forum, please provide clear guild lines.

I am not trying to challenge anyone or cause any trouble. I just think it would be good to have some clarification, especially since none of the replies so far address TS's point about spades and shovels being allowed, but laptop chargers not being allowed.

well..there is a general rule, no WTB/WTS in kopitiam. as you mentioned, you would allow such posts. however, the CS admins don't.

a hard drive is not primarily designed for storage of photos. CF/SDHC are designed for use in cameras.
