well as far as I know, PAL or NTSC doesnt matter anymore nowadays as today TV, VCD and DVD players can play both PAL or NTSC unless ur home is still using 1980s TV
Should not be an issue. Most of the DVDs sold in Singapore are in NTSC format. Your DVD player can play both NTSC and PAL format. Of course, to watch the video, your TV must be able to support both formats. All LCDs/Plasma TVs are able to support and certain CRT TVs can play NTSC. If you had use a laserdisc player with your TV, then your TV can play NTSC because all laserdiscs that were sold in Singapore were NTSC. Heck, even the hi-def Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs sold in Singapore are recorded in NTSC.
I think your question should be why are major electronics so expensive in Singapore? Our little paradise, once a shopping heaven has suffered because of escalating business costs and the fact that the distributors want to make large profits. Camcorders, BD Players etc are half the price when imported from USA despite paying GST and transport costs.
Thinking of asking a friend to get the Sony SR12 for me via amazon.jp. I am not sure if you can choose PAL/NTSC system on amazon.jp. Does it matter? Also, is it possible to have English menu for the cam?
Sony cam in Japan don't have English menu, unless you are buying the oversea models which are about the same price or some even ex than S'pore. Models fr Pana or Canon may come with English menu option.
