well as far as I know, PAL or NTSC doesnt matter anymore nowadays as today TV, VCD and DVD players can play both PAL or NTSC unless ur home is still using 1980s TV ;)

So there is no issue saving video on DVD from a NTSC videa camera to play on DVD player in Singapore?

Should not be an issue. Most of the DVDs sold in Singapore are in NTSC format. Your DVD player can play both NTSC and PAL format. Of course, to watch the video, your TV must be able to support both formats. All LCDs/Plasma TVs are able to support and certain CRT TVs can play NTSC. If you had use a laserdisc player with your TV, then your TV can play NTSC because all laserdiscs that were sold in Singapore were NTSC. Heck, even the hi-def Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs sold in Singapore are recorded in NTSC.

Going to Tokyo so thinking of gettin the Canon HF 10 only 52500 yen is SIN $735.00

Anyone has experience buying a Canon camcorder in Japan?

What the difference beside warranty, are the menus in English?

Thanks

I think your question should be why are major electronics so expensive in Singapore? Our little paradise, once a shopping heaven has suffered because of escalating business costs and the fact that the distributors want to make large profits. Camcorders, BD Players etc are half the price when imported from USA despite paying GST and transport costs.

Best Regards,

Tony

Now, the rate is higher, 100¥ = S$1.63.

52500¥ is $855.75

Thinking of asking a friend to get the Sony SR12 for me via amazon.jp. I am not sure if you can choose PAL/NTSC system on amazon.jp. Does it matter? Also, is it possible to have English menu for the cam?

Sony cam in Japan don't have English menu, unless you are buying the oversea models which are about the same price or some even ex than S'pore. Models fr Pana or Canon may come with English menu option.

You are right!! You are unable to change language for Sony camera. Damn.. have to find a way out of this mess....

In Japan they have export models for Sony, Canon and Sanyo camcorders.

They are price more expensive than local sets but comes with international warranty and much cheaper compare to Singapore RRP Prices.

Also the menus are in English as they are export sets.

I'll be heading for Japan, Hokkaido soon. I'm quite interested in Canon HF100. Would it really be a good deal if i can get it from there ?
