so where is the best deal for GH1 in town at the moment?

Love to know that too. Maybe can buy together and get even more discount. Hee, hee.

Ok..I made calls to MS and Parisilk Holland Village. From what I gather in this thread, only this two places have it at the moment and seems like Parisilk price is better.

Note: I'm not supporter or fanboy of any camera shop, just comparing prices. In fact I have never buy anything from Parisilk before. I go wherever the price is good and service is decent:)

Ya, I don't mind a group buy if we can get further discount. Any camera shop also can lah

cheers

I got mine from John 3:16, actually. I'm very certain Alan Photo should have it too.

You can have a touch and feel of the Panansonic GH1 at Marina Square, Panasonic Roadshow by Gain City.

I didn't ask about the price.

The pain of buying something so niche in the market; no accessories! No L-plates, need to order 3rd party release cables, ultra-expensive flash cords (and I thought Nikon was bad), etc. Oh, and Panasonic's a pain for making the batteries expensive AND hard to find.

There's still an advantage to buying Nikon/Canon systems. It's really hard to argue with a more complete and better supported system and 3rd party support for those who want or need it.

If Nikon/Canon had a Liveview system with autofocus as good as the Panasonic, as light as the Panasonic, as small sized as the Panasonic, I also would have switched already. ;)

Not that I am not complaining about the lack of lens choices for the G1 either, but I would still be stuck with my PnS otherwise. Or more likely, an Olympus.

Hi,

is the video restricted to only 30 mins? I saw philip bloom reviews and he mentioned that it will only be applicable to EU. Can local users confirm this? thanks.

EU only thing. Our cameras shouldn't have it. It's confirmed in the manual.

Will there be a comparison review done for the GH1 and EP-1? Seems like some of the guys here already got both. Hope they will help to do up a review of that sort. =)

Gh1
Ergonomic wise, liveview af wise, panasonic is superior to the E-p1
better grip for holding , more useful and tiltable lcd screen

E-p1
17mm 2.8 is very good=34mm
wide enough for group photo and landscape
cheaper by almost 50%
expensive and almost useless external flash..they should make it like the nikon sb400...should be able to tilt up for bouncing.

most probably will get the G1 or e620 if there any good 2nd hand to to let go.
E-p1 is a nice camera..but liveview af speed wise despite what they said..i feel is only marginally better than e620. colour wise by default e620 is also slightly better
the lack of the built in flash and not so useful external flash kill off the deal for me..The camera althought claimed to be the smallest is by not mean EASY to hold without a hand or shoulder strap...as the grip is small and there a potential of it slipping from yr hand.

asked J316 about the GH1, they said no stock but can order, didnt ask about the price tho. CP peninsula selling at 2250 plus 8gb and bag. Was thinking of getting a 2nd body for my 5dmk2 setup, maybe this is it!! or maybe i am poisoned :confused:;)

just check with Parisilk the GH-1 only @ $2145 with standard bundle
however the camera body is now made in China nolonger Japan :(

One step forward, two steps backwards...
I'm surprised it's made in China as well since G1 is made in Japan.
Perhaps they're sharing the same factory as Olympus.

That's true. Yesterday went to test out the Oly PEN and quite surprised its made in China. But the PEN price is so much lower then the Panny's GH1. Oh well, hope prices will come down fast when it flooded the shops. :bsmilie:

Hi all,

For those who had the GH1, just got a couple of questions abt the camera before i buy one for my dad.

- on a 8gb sd card, how long is the recording time for 1080p? I read the cataloge, it says 1 hr but the salesperson told me it will only be 20mins for 8gb? Is this true?

- all movies that are recorded on the sd card in AVCHD, how do we transfer them to our PC, then to blank DVD disc. Possible and easy to do? Can we also play the burned DVD on a sony PS3? This is for my dad future viewing.

- how is the performance of the kit lens? will the gh1 lens mount be able to accept M leica lenses? I also have a lot of old AIS nikon lenses, can i use them too? If yes, will auto-focus and metering works? This is more for my dad convenience rather than for myself.

I tried searching for answers on the net but to no avail. Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
CT.

IIRC, 8GB SD card recorded using AVCHD should give you about 1hr. Much less if you use MJPEG mode.

Included Photofunstudio for Windows allows you to transfer your movie recordings to DVD (in SD). Anything that can play regular DVD video should be able to play that (but still in SD). Playing in HD would need something like a BD player... or something else that can play AVCHD.

Please see other reviews for + & - of the kit lens... You can mount Leica M lenses with a suitable adaptor(s), but with manual focus. I think metering will work if you set to aperture priority.

I dislike the default jpg image quality. Too soft and under saturated.

The movie mode is really enticing though.

GH1 also lacked a wireless remote control which all camcorders have.
