i just bought the gh1 at ms color. They said 2 others had bought it at their outlet, before me. My first dslr-like camera, so i'm sure there's lots for me to learn.

cool. bro you mind sharing how much you pay? I'm planning to buy one... went to CP, still no stock.

(not sure if it's against some sort of ethics; someone edit this or tell me to do so if it is... But I'm sure what I paid isn't especially low. )

RRP is supposed to be $2499, as YSLee mentioned. I paid $2249, ie about 10% off. That's certainly better than what I was considering in an earlier post, and certainly makes it cheaper than importing from US or HK. Of course, it's still a few hundred more than a JP model, but I figure that english menus, PAL, local warranty and supporting local shops made my decision to buy locally.

Generally, I don't think that importing any kind of electronic good is going to make dollar sense. The only time I imported electronic goods were audio equipment that the manufacturer refused to bring them in.

You guys looking at 7-14mm lens now? Hee, hee.

Thanks for the info.
Enjoy your new toy!

They only had black at the time - as a non-serious user, I really wanted red or gold...

My camera came with body and lens firmware version 1.0 (if you're contemplating using 3rd party batteries, and are concerned about them being disabled after the firmware upgrade).

That's one thing that seems cheaper to import... IIRC, the shop said the battery RRP is just under $200. Even with a standard discount, this is much more expensive than from amazon.

but i suppose the third battery issue is here to stay unless u decide not to upgrade any firmware for this cam in the future or hopefully third-party battery makers will provide a fix for it :)

care to share how much you got it for and the bundle any other color to select?

I know the BULB mode for the GH1 is up to 4 minutes. As for the G1, the last time I toyed with it, I seriously couldn't find it under manual mode via shutter setting. Gotta check again with the GH1 when I toy with it. Geez! Why must they hide such an important feature?! Oh okay, I know most people don't really shoot in B mode.

No IR remote control. Ouch.
Yup. Set to M, go past 60".

:) Was at Mustapha two days back and they were selling the G1 at $1099 and the GH1 at $2399.

anyone can advise on the lens thread size for the bundled kit lens still the same as G1 lens @ 52mm?

No. Filter thread size is 62mm for the H-VS014140.

thks for the info but was wondering if HD filter is required to optimised the image capability for this lens or normal filters will do

What HD filter?? A normal filter will do fine. :)

Hoya's HD filters stand for HARDENED, not High Definition.

I see. He didn't mentioned Hoya, Because he said "optimised the image capability for this lens", so I was thinking High Definition. :bsmilie:

Many people mistake the HD filters for Hi-Def. It's probably a deliberate marketing move by Hoya in the first place. I have to say it's working well though!

thanks for the clarification :)
