Who/what is LOWBALLER?

While not everyone is at fault, I still have to disagree... I've once got an 'offer' that was way too low to consider... I told the person so, he reply "There is no harm in trying"...

There are just people who like a good bargain and don't care what you think...

yes lah. such pple exist. as i said, if u feel that they should know better, no need to give face.

but i want to point the finger at sellers also... there are really some pple who dun mind selling at a big loss... can call it "spoil market" or anything u want but it happens. and buyers are tempted to low-ball and try their luck because some sellers are accommodating them by selling at "spoil market" prices. both behaviors feed each other.

i still remember the last "massacre" in one of the buy / sell forum one time - new model on the horizon, many users looking to upgrade, all sell together  to secure prompt sale, some outrageous prices were offered by some sellers. an intelligent buyer seeing this will definitely be trying to buaya the best deal out of the numerous desperate sellers.

so this whole subject of "low balling", while we often blame bad buyers for "chow ka" behavior, sellers have to reflect also... by "spoiling market", they encourage more buyers to try their luck and perpetuate the "low-ball" practice.

but what can anyone say? market forces lor... willing buyer, willing seller...

The top phrase i always encounter is "Hi, i am a student on a tight budget, can sell to me cheaper?", and offers you 50% of the market price.

Regardless of occupation, just reply "Hi, I am a student too and need money, can buy at a higher price?" :bsmilie:

hi i'm a poor coffeemaker. can you lower the price?

Then the student sashays in on a BMW, sporting a Vertu handphone, a Bell & Ross watch, and with a girlfriend decked out in Tiffany & Co and Cartier? :bsmilie:

Also got meet jokers who say can buy at the stated price but ask if can pay by installments. Might as well ask me if can pay by CPF:confused:

after splurging on all that, he realized that he had no money for lenses :bsmilie:

To me, it doesn't really matter how much the seller thinks his equipment is worth, even if it is out of whack. Seller has quoted a price based on what he/she paid for it and/or what he/she thinks it's worth. Buyer can always ignore the WTS if he/she thinks the price is too high, not by trying his/her luck in the form of asking for 20-40% discount. That said, it is the right of any buyer to quote his/her price, and the right of the seller not to respond.

Sell the BMW can buy many many lenses. :bsmilie:

he can buy many many D3s too.

but then his Cartier and Tiffany & Co. laden girlfriend would leave him too :bsmilie:

maybe should do some policing to deter anti-social behavior in buy/sell. :bsmilie:

potential buyers should refrain from lowballing. lowballing is defined as offering a price that is less than X% of the seller's asking price. (X% to be determined by moderators)

buyers who persist in doing so will acquire infamy as "lowballers" and liable to be reported. the label "lowballer" will be posted prominently against their nick for 3 mths for each infraction. :bsmilie:

i said "maybe" right? :bsmilie:

no lah. i'm just joking. this won't prevent anything. so easy to just reg a new nick, call from a pre-paid card, etc etc. no end one. pple will do ANYTHING if they feel that they can hide behind the anonymity offered by the internet.

but it'll be damn funny if chit chatting with pple and suddenly u see your friend's nick got the label "lowballer" :bsmilie:
