After I got my driving licence, I drove manual car locally for 3 months before I drove at NZ. It is so much easier to drive there as very less traffic. Even you go onto wrong route, you can always U-turn back. Road navigation is very easy due to their main road.

During my NZ, My wife and I booked the rental car (auto Nissan bluebird 1.8L) online before we flew to NZ and they came to fetch us at the airport. Once received car, next thing was visit the i-site. We booked the accommodation there. All towns will have a i-site for tourist to book accommodation, collect maps, package tour and etc.

Depend on how many days you are going ...Click below link for NZ driving routes

Me no different lah.. Me going 34, just went BBDC earlier to sign up. hahaha.. Wanted to take 3A initially but they say go overseas not recognised, so signed up for 3C. I already have basic theory but need to go through the lessons also.. :( How many FT practice you have to go through?

FT practice, I took about 4 in the end. 1st one, very slow, cover 3 booklet. 2nd n 3rd one, cover all the reminding 8 plus some revise. 4th, totally on revise. Last friday pass, today then able to book for PRACTICAL TEST!!! Got 13th July, Friday some more, I skip, choose 14th as more fresh. Now all practical lessons booked and will theory attended, I spend abt $1.7k, still ok la, so many mths to go. ;)

I going to make some more extra and cancel if not needed. So, you book abt 30, with one before test date. But i think, best is for u to take cab ard some time n see how they turn, ask for their advise if possible. ;)

Wait till I clear my FT first.. meanwhile I can start some practical first. ;p

Clutch got one thing that I notice of. Different car, different biting point. Last lesson, can go off smooth but not for yesterday one, very hard to control. All the best for you. :)

You can do FT and practical lessons at the same time.

For theory test, try to go thru. the 10 years series FAQs book.

Ya, esp. the school car, the clutch is quite strong and powerful.

I asked bus driver (company one) and he told me, even he change bus, he also got problem on clutch, need time to master. Hope next lesson, same car till the end as I think, if not wrong, yesterday is the right instructor who is going to take me all the way............!!!!

Think I got one of those but I think I'll book some practice sessions and go bang on the computer until I get them right. ;p

Ah ya. If you worry release clutch will cause car stall, dun release too early, keep it slightly longer.

Just to rest ur left heel on the floor and front foot on the clutch.

hmmm i am learning to drive.... juz too lazy to go do FT.... ahahahaha yeah went for driving, kinda nice, but i think i like to speed.... bad right?

I started driving in 1972 and passed my UK test in the same year and Im still learning driving now :sweatsm: everything changes so quickly its hard work keeping up with it all , I could park my car in the street no problem then .... but now .. its a nightmare getting parked anywhere other than your own driveway / garage ... so many car so little room for them .
My first new car was a Brooklands Ford Capri 2.9i bought in 1983 .. Tokyo Drift had nothing on this baby it drifted everywhere ... rear wheel drive .. those were the days , I had to fill the petrol tank up or put a bag of sand in the boot to keep the back wheels on the road :bsmilie:
For anyone taking your test in the near future .. the best of luck , I hope you enjoy your driving as much as I have :)

dont learn everything from cabbies... they always let the car freewheel without gear engaged when coming to a stop. that is dangerous.

another method is to slowly release the clutch till you can feel the car wanting to move forward and the engine is slightly vibrating. that is the biting point and u can hold it there to move off.

Problem is that I am tall, long leg somemore. Seat push max, instructor still ask me to push more. I tried to feel the biting point, very high, almost my leg about to release already. Maybe shoe sole too thick and cause me to feel differently? :dunno: See how next lesson, maybe more chance to stop n go as learning during evening time.

Learning now too, and doing stage 3.... 21 May practical test...
For biting point, one method is to ramp the acc pedal till about 3 rpm and play with clutch to see it drop to 2.... you will need it when doing stage 2, moving off from up slope.

soft sole shoes are preferred for learner drivers. u can feel better. i dont think ur height matters, cos there are most probably people with ur height who had gone thru this stage.

sometimes the engine stalls because u didnt apply enough acceleration. so u can follow snowcrash and ramp till 3k rpm (not 3 rpm, haha) then play with clutch.

also try not to rest ur heal on the floor. it's best to follow the method in the theory book cos u can feel the clutch better that way. (at least it worked for me when i was learning)

Will try to feel it more next time, although some time can manage a good start, some time not. :(
