wow ..... the two expensive ones ;) ...... Do you think the PC interface is useful? The Vytec with transmitter is good right?

I have been looking at the suunto, but I am keeping my option open for other brand, so any other brands?

well, if u r not too particular, get a citizen promaster. normal wear for outdoor or diving also suitable. quite a simple dive comp with auto switch to dive mode when depth more than 1m, time in and time out, max and avg depth, water temp, date and total time. cost about 300+

hope this help. ;)

UWATEC is good but changing battery is a big no-no. im not too sure which model. cos usu UWATEC need special tools to open up the casing to change the battery. which richmond will have to send it over to HK, cost probably abt 200, plus the time between freighting, abt 2 weeks or more...just my personal opinion.

for me, my UWATEC com, I have been using for 4yrs +, abt >150 dives, till has 3/4 of the batt life left. Somemore, unlike sunnto, which is always ON, which drains batt life much faster, UWATEC only starts when it touches water. It is water activated, it uses batt life only when activated by you or when it touches water. So, the $200( I know it sounds troublesome and ex) but if you put that factor into account, it all boils down to one thing.

Sunnto: more ex, more conservative, smaller, more stylish, can be worn as a normal watch, drains more batt life, some models known to spoil easier. No fixed distributor (only one and damn ex), so warranty is also quite questionable if you get cheaper sets(parellel imports)

UWATEC: big, bulky, not nice to look at, batt lasts longer, less conservative, lighter, distributer is Richmond(so warannty is more promising), more changeable parts(eg, com display cover, strap...), no time stamping, lesser functions, slightly cheaper, lesser dive info availible(based on my model, ultra pro)

I think Lanxx has a rather objective view :) ..... Been to UWATEC website, and true enough, it's battery life time seems to be longer, but what information is lesser? Where to get the UWATEC Dive comp too?

Anyway, UWATEC is in my shopping consideration list now :) ..... hehehehe.... any others?

The only other peeve about the Uwatec is that it looks HUGE compared to the sleek Sunnto.

My (older) model Aladin Pro, does not have clock/time-stamp, ie time in & out of water. Only the bottom time. Hence my log book would not have this info.

After 2 yrs and about 130 dives. It is now on 89% battery.

Was told that if I want to save more battery, I should take this item as hand carry lauggue when flying. The altitude sensor could be activated during flight. But with my u/w camera & case, my little carry on bag is a little big congested lah....

Heheheh... big is ok :) .... I am not using that as a watch anyway ;) .... I think the Smart Pro may be a good competitor against the Stinger + PC Interface kit, must check out the price / feature of that ;) .... hehehehehe....

Oceanic....has almost same functions as Suunto, but at 2/3 the price

I've been using the old Uwatec Aladdin for a few years already - the battery seems to last a long time. I think the battery life is supposed to be 7 years or something like that. Uwatec is also very durable - can drop and still work!!

For Suunto Stinger, it is prob advisable to change new batteries every 2nd/3rd dive trip cos you dun wan the batteries to die halfway. A cheaper model (plastic, not metal) is the Suunto mosquito - heard that the earlier batches are v problematic but one of my friends who bought one recently has been v happy with it.

Oceanic is supposed to be good and cheap but not so commonly used by Sporean divers.

If you can find a newish 2nd hand uwatec or suunto, that cld be a good alternative. No need to have fancy features like wireless link, pc interface etc etc. Get a reliable basic workhorse model. Dive comps seem to be rather expensive nowadays...

I am using both the Oceanic and Suunto. Things i like about Oceanic - easy button operation as compared to Suunto, price and ability to change battery by user. Save lots....

Now i change the battery on my Vyper myself and Oceanic is way much easier.

agreed. one thing to note is that if u r using suunto, do not press any button while is wet. water might penetrate in, unlike UWATEC, which uses water sensor button. oceanic not too sure.

Oceanic at Concourse may still have a few DC available at special prices. They may be older model but should still be under warranty

OK, got the UWATEC Smart Pro ;) .... but still does not know how to delete the Log inside the Dive Comp :(

notice that people like me are keeping quiet? ^_^ interesting info here... though i wouldnt get a dive comp. hey guys, i am going diving this weekend! haha!~ going to aur. hope i see something ya ...

Beivied, you going Aur?? So coincidental har - thot i heard someone else also going Aur... ;p

Ok ok ok dun 'hum tum' me.. just joking lah. Seriously, if you intend to dive regularly, imho, you shld buy a computer even before a reg/bcd. A 2nd uwatec aladdin (1-2 yrs old) can be a good buy cos they are extremely reliable and long lasting.

Blurblock, dun mind me asking but how much is the Aladdin smart pro? From which shop?

who is going to aur? why would i wanna hum tum you leh? if you are talking about waisj, i thought he went yesterday?

anyway, i cannot afford to buy a dive computer as yet la ... but i am interested to buy the fins you said near lavender army market ...

err, correction, not this weekend, it is next weekend, forget today is friday, haha .. oh ya, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
