This is a blog of a 30 yr old french who packs up and goes diving for a year around the world. His pics are amazing. Prior to Bali, he was using a C-730 w/o a strobe. Unfortunately (or fortunately), his camera was flooded in Ko Tao and he bought a C-5050 and Ikelite DS-50 strobe in Singapore.
Take some time to look at what you can achieve with the most popular camera in UWCS.
I was so inspired that I went to Perhentian last weekend with just my wife's C-3040 and DX90. Conclusion : I could shoot what he shot with my motormarine, but I have a lot to learn in digital. Also, the shutter lag is killing me. Guess I just have to practice, practice and practice.
Also, having owned Ikelite DS-50 and S&S DX90, I would say the Ikelite is a better match for Olympus becos of TTL.

anyway I think the only differentiator is the strobe, in terms of quality. top lighting is always superb.
shutter lag? hehehe yeah it's a pain..
anyway just came from the sony demo at suntec... wah saw their marine shots using HD vcams on the 50+ plasmas... ouch ouch ouch... according to the sony guy HD is ~3mp per frame. and that's for moving video.
over the rez, the cam also has many auto processing caps, and is meant for broadcast. but for SG, no public interest in HD so they are not bringing it in. shit.

Thinking of diving at P. Hantu next weekend. I know viz is bad and currents can be strong but I'm kinda looking forward to getting more exposed to challenging dive sites as most of my dives so far have been in relaxing W. Malaysia islands. Anyone has any comments on the site?
