Thanks for the advices given here concerning the strobes. In the end I got another YS-90DX (actually kenneth got it for me). Will be using it in Redang.

me going to kuantan and tioman this month end. about two weeks more la. after that , hai, no more money to go diving le. ... sobs.

When I went in 1999 and 2000, Redang was, (imho, no flames pls) far better than aur and tioman. The underwater topography is much more interesting - swimthroughs, overhangs etc and lots of lovely hard coral, anemone etc. I saw a school of huge humphead parrot fish (.75-1m each), turtles, giant barracuda, stingrays, schools of fusiliers, small sharks etc. Great diving for the price, and a long beautiful white sand beach to chill out on. Some of the better dive sites are teremburu kili, tunnel point, big mount.

Most spore operators charge about $500 for a 3d4N trip. You can do the same trip on your own for $300 by booking direct with the resort and buying the bus tickets from Lavender street bus station. Best if you have a group of about 6-8 divers so that you can have your own speedboat and choose your own dive sites. Well worth a visit (try to have 4 diving days there) before venturing further to similans, sipadan etc.
