huh? what filter? I am going down today to get the warm filters for C5050 housing. On paper, should work very nicely.

I find that the C5050, cloudly mode still not warm enough. I like my pics warm.

Which filters did you buy and how much did you pay for the filters?
I believe you are getting the 67mm ones right?

Was thinking of trying out FL-D, and 85, but haven't bought it yet
as I had cancelled my trip.

Another thing I was thinking of :
Frankly I don't quite see myself using 67mm filter for anything besides UW photography, and hardly any other lens uses 67mm filter either.
So what do you think of the idea of sharing these filters (which are I think will mainly be use for UW photography anyway)

lanxx one is DIY, cannot buy in the market one. anyway, the filter should be quite cheap.

Suggest that you dun plunge into super high capacity memory yet - start off with a 512M CF (EastGear's got cheap prices for this) and buy a 1G CF later when you need it - & prices will be cheaper then. If not enuf memory in meantime, laanx will rent to you, remember?? :D heh heh

I think that is a good idea. A 512MB will allow you some 400 shots (JPG). For many that is quite enough for a weekend trip. (Well, I am guilty of finish that in a day before) A X-drive or a (borrowed?) second card should make it more than enough.

While 1 GB CF has been cheaper than ever, it is still quite a bit money, and is about enough to get yourself a 40GB X-drive.

If you shoot RAW, things are a bit different. The size of a 1-2 GB card will be about appropriate for a day's shoot. If you really go trigger happy, or you need to shoot multiday, then you'll still need external storage. Personally I'll rather go for a 512MB + external storage.

Er, meaning fashion your own filter? So do you put it inside or outside the casing?

I got the 67mm, 81C @$20, I know my fren can get at $16-18, but she not around to help me.
I found the 85C too warm, scared over 'warmth', coz I use strobe too.
FL-D filter, dunno where to get them. Dun think Cathy photo carries them. I already have a 67mm tokina UV fiilter liao. $10

reading the HOYA manual,
these are the recommended filters that can be used for u/w photography(according to articles)

81C- light balancing filter. prevents blue cast in cloudy or rainy weather.
85C- Color conversion filter. Used to convert 5500K lighting to 3800K
FL-day - Elimates green cast when daylight type films are use under daylight type florescent lights.

My fren ever bought a orange filter, rem seeing it, too orange, she complained that the pics come out way too orange, so 81C should be just nice for shots with fill in flash.

5500K(daylight) to 3800k, way too much.
I prefer my pics around 4400k range. It works for pics below like 10m+ depth. Go read my 1st link I posted, a few posts back.

85C is less orange then 85A and 85B. So for those diving deep and for WA shots, 85C should be ok, maybe, it will reduce your shoots by 1 F-stop.

FL-day as said by frisky, dunno if it helps, but rem reading somewhere that it does.

yeah, make my own, ard $10, but not really red, more too pinkish red.
price of lens went up recently....
Tried dying the lens as red as the sony one, terrible! waste of $$, dun ever buy. I have 2 frens that bought the lens and complained too red, so quite useless, paying $200+ for it somemore.

You have to find your own method to attach it outside your housing yourself.

A slight suggestion, get a 1-2 GB CF card (if there is a 2 gb CF card) and bring a laptop along :blah:

Can upload picture to your laptop and at the same time download information from your dive computer :bsmilie:

There is a 2GB CF card around, but at about S$1400++, enough for you
to get 4 1GB CF card.

Frankly if it is logistically possible, that would be a great idea.
You can review the photos right after and do whatever editing, deletion etc you want.

first, i dont have enough money to buy a 1gb cf card.

that would mean, i wouldnt have money to buy a laptop.

then, a red filter shouldnt cost a lot ma. uncle lanxx, sgd20 i still can afford ok, tao yan.

this guy called memory is selling some brand Solutions ( :dunno: ) 512mb cf card for 160. 20x. think can buy or not ah?

by the way i got a friend selling his s40 with underwater housing. comes with two original batteries, box, cables, cd rom, everything in the standard package la. s40 no more warranty already, bought for about one and a half years. the housing was bought in feb. help me see anyone wants or not hor, price negotiable

Er, the labtop don't have to be your own.........

There is another guy selling 512MB 30x transcend at $170,
which I think is a better buy. I got one from him too.

Got a tiffen FL-D 67mm from MS yesterday

Hi Guys,

Just got back from a week of diving at Sipadan. Was just amazing... Macro live was fantastic with loads of stuff... my first dive which was a beach dive at Kapalai already have me seeing everything I saw on the west coast of Penisular Malaysia and more... The rest of the dive sites just got better and better.

The highlight of the trip is the thousands of barrcudas that swirled around... not to mention the hundreds of trevalies.... also a fair number of bumphead parrot fish during a dawn dive.

Photos are at:

http://homepage.mac.com/alvinchan/Diving/PhotoAlbum47.html

Some of the photos are not very good, due to the slow focusing of the IXUS camera I was using and the lack of a strobe.

Saw loads of cool u/w camera equipment by other divers. Even a SLR in a Ikelite Housing with a strobe, lenses and the works...

Oh by the way, "frisky", I met the other two divers that went with Deep Blue. They joined our group for diving..

I think that was great!!!!

What a pity I couldn't make it.........

BTW, how is the visibility there?
Noticed that a good part of the background was green,
which suggested suspended particles.......

How many dives did you make in all?

without strobe?????? your photos colours are good! how did you do that????

i did 17 Dives. As far as I can tell regarding the photos, the closer u get to the subject the internal flash is ok. However, u can see that not the entire image is litted up. This would be overcomed if a strobe was used.

Visibility was between 5 - 15 metres. We had some bad weather, but I think it don't matter as the underwater life are not shy to divers. I got really close to the sharks, barracudas and trevalies. Again, I think the bad weather brought in loads of underwater creatures for us.

How did the UW Seed go?

Yup, but that would be quite a bit of $$, plus extra stuff to handle underwater.......

Yea boy, I was surprise to see turtle heads rather than turtles......
Poor vis will be a issue for available light shots which I am thinking of trying, plus it changes the color of light passing through, hence the question......

Didn't make it for the UW Seed, but the rest posted some comments
earlier in the thread........

i think your wide angle pics are pretty well too. or was it at a shallower depth? gosh, you fellas make me feel like a pathetic stranded on land diver!

Don' think the strobe would be much trouble. Not sure but I'm considering a G5 in an Ikelite housing connected by cable with possibly the DS-125 Strobe with TTL. Would be costing $$$$$.... dunno.. maybe next year .... perhaps.... maybe after some 4-D, Big Sweep, Lottery.... "who wants to be a millionaire?" :D
