Which tripod?

there're different models for the 190 tripod.... some could mount horizontally, some can't.

a pic below shows the positioning of the centre column:

If yours is indeed the 190Pro, then all you have to do is to:

1)Unscrew the bottom end of the centre column
2)Loosen the centre column clamp totally
3)Remove centre column
4)Examine the centre column mount, note that there is a gap/hole at the side which allows the centre column to slide in, just like it does vertically.
5)Insert the centre column horizontally
6)Tighten.

Don't have pics to show as my digicam not available for now, but these are illustrated clearly in the instructions of the 190Pro if you still have them.

Yes, my older version with screw locks for the legs cannot mount horizontally.

Can some one evaluete this tripods price tag , its 20 years old , made in Japan , metal head and body, alumimium bars , 1 meter high - 1.35 m with the head up , 1200 Kg .

which tripod suit for 9Kg? Gitzo CF ? I am planning to buy CF tripod

9kg? What camera setup are you using? You would need a series 3 to support that weight.

Been wandering, had anyone got the Velbon 640 Carbon Fiber? is this tripod good? I've tried out this tripod in EastGear, and was wandering how long lasting is the Rubbery Leg Locks? and the Angle Bracket seems plasticky, anyone have any comment?

I mean, yea 499 for a CF tripod it's a steal compare to the Gitzo Mountaineer 1228, but paying 500 bucks, would like to know if this product is long lasting to justify the purchase ...

I use a Benro, made in China, copy of the Gitzo tripods, good value for money. I am sure good enough for most of all!

Iuse Gitzo tripods too for years,but after seeing those Benro ones, I am convinced! Chinese working for peanuts still manage to make good products! I bought them in Beijiing and they also had those Carbon fibre ones....

get a 2nd-hand from shops or keep a lok out at B&S section of CS!

IMO, Slik & Manfrotto & Velbon 2nd-hand should b abt under $180. (i dunno wads ur budget:dunno: )

think that you can consider ESPN's 190B pro (selling on B&S now) .. value for money... then add a Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head or 141 pan head... gd enough to last you long long.... :bsmilie: hope it helps...

wads gd can b subjective, gotta QC urself. oni premium is gd enough 4 some ppl. som ppl will raise expectation wen time goes by (me loh).:bsmilie:
