Are sure that 500d has no built in flash?or has yours been glued?haha....i've never heard of nowadays digital camera that has no built in flash,even so many handphone uses xenon flash....u should check better before you post,brother....hahahaha

Bro, maybe I can give u some help.. Got my 500D last August 09 never fail me till now, do 90% indoor portrait with control lighting IQ is good. Just got my 550D on Wednesday love the HD movies function, better IQ under same lighting set up, same len Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 or Canon 70-200 F2.8 ( more detail on model face detail) Otherwise, both are great camera. I love the 500D so much, so keep the 500D for my elder son so he can pass his 400D to the younger brother...haha
If u like HD movies shoot (with better control), pay a bit more get 550D, pure photo shoot 500d will meet your need as compare to 550D.

base on your 5 series experience, i can see you will move on to 50D, then finally 5D, with lesser digit...550-500-50-5 :thumbsup:

550D is equal or better than 500D in ALL aspects, except price.

Those that say that 500D has better IQ than 550D are simply misinformed.

if you got the budget for 550d, why not? i don't think canon will produce a product which is lousier than the pervious models. IQ wise i think it wont have any big difference? but make sure you buy the one you really like, and dont regret.

Hmm if i'm not wrong (correct me if i'm wrong cause me noob too) the 550D is a newer model than the 500D, so i believe the 550D have some upgrades in the features as compared to the older 500D and since you want to use this camera for quite awhile more, i believe that going for the upgraded feature would be a wiser choice. Of course it depends on individual and their budget. If budget permits i think 550D is better, cheers!
