Which to buy, Canon 500D or 550D

Did a simple test shoot last Thursday with a model on both 500d and 550d ( no flash nor strobe light)just sunlight from the window, result very similar to one of the link pose by our CSers http://www.neutralday.com/canon-eos...d-vs-eos-7d-iso-and-image-quality-comparison/
In this site they are using 70-200F2.8 with same lighting setup for 500d,550d and 7d.
I'm using Tamron 17-50F2.8, 550d shown more detail (marginal) on the model face - pigmentation, wrinkles etc. That's just my personnal opinion... Will do more detail shoot with proper lighting setup with my "new" 17-40F4 and 70-200F2.8 this coming week with two different model and let you know my finding..

Surprise to see the image is brighter on 550D under same condition of lighting and camera set up..

Different metering mah. 550D appears sharper also.

Used a tripod? Should increase the F-stop number a little also. But great test.

Thanks Bro, will try to increase the F-stop for normal shoot.. Because just got this len from one of the CSers hear, want to compare with my Tamron F2.8 at fully open. I think 17-40mmF4L go well with 550D for indoor portrial..

550D, only 150 difference. if compare 550D with 5D or 50D, 7D, you may consider much more.

To be fair, you can mitigate the 500D&#8217;s watercolour tendencies somewhat if you shoot Raw. (and don&#8217;t apply crazy noise reduction).

But on topic, go for the 550D. It&#8217;s a small difference for the improvements.

I got a 500D...But I almost never shoot at ISO1600/3200 (just feel uncomfortable with high ISOs lol) so the watercolour thing doesn't really matter to me that much...So in the end, boils down to what you need and what you will do with the camera. Of course, if you got the cash and don't mind to spend, get the 550D. Newer is almost always better, I guess? :bsmilie:

Go for 550,just a little of price difference.u dont want to regret in the future saying "Aiya,should have bought the 550d,500d's picture too much noise shot at high ISO"
Go to canon website or the-digital-picture.com to compare.
If i were you,i will go for 550d without much hessitation.

I was at the show earlier with my fren who initially wanted to get the EOS 550D kit 1.

Den we saw the brochure, EOS 550D kit 1 at $1449 and EOS 500D kit 1 at $1099.

Seems like the EOS 500D has dropped significantly.

and it seems like a really gd buy.

Just liek to seek advice on whether it is worth the $350 for a newer model.

I will be companying my fren to MS color tonight to get the camera.

So just like to seek advise frm Bros here regarding which camera is a better buy.

(and yes we did read up online, on dpreview, but he still cant decide. )
