Personally, I don't recommend TCW for people who would mention the words "warranty" and "grey set" too often whilst conversing with the shopkeepers. Sure tio earful one. They do not trust their customers either. I had a friend whose 580EX2 flash was making jiggling noises when shook. He then brought it back to TCW, and they accused him of dropping it when he did no such thing.

Best price is not base on customer service alone but also honest in dealing with the customer. they might give the best price but accessories would be extra $$$ without discount.Every shop in Singapore prices are different by the margin, so the answer is which shop you prefer.

Is there any problem with getting grey sets serviced? I understand that one has to return it to the shop, and let them send for servicing. What is the draw back on this?

I rather bring it to CSC. TCW will kaopei you when you go back to them for issues with grey sets.

In some cases, the shop that provide shop warranty might have a more stringent standard as compare to the authorized dealer. As what Cartman2000 has mentioned, if they think the problem came from customer's own fault, they are not going to honor the warranty by providing FOC services.

For every honest customer, there are 2-3 dishonest ones that want free service even they are the one who cause the problem (abuse usage or accidental dropped the equipment). It is understandable the shops will have to protect themselves from these kind of claims.

The flash was barely 2 weeks old lol.

Alan photo had better price...service so-so...

alrights... thanks for the advice.

confirmed with them that its the kit price. and also, how wud i know if i'm getting a genuine set, i.e. warranty and stuff wun have any problems. kinda new to this scene of buying a camera. currently on SLR, so making a switch to DSLR. =) Thanks so much for the advise. seek to learn more! haha

I got my D5000 from TK today, near to the best I have got quoted from MS, and Cathay, but definitely not as low as what you got, but sometimes if quoted too low, I also have the same concern if they are so call grey sets.

Vote Orient Photo.

Bought my farorite 135L from them (all other shops before CNY run out of it). They took the time looking for it in stock and finally got one. Plus their oral quote towards a first-time customer like me is very reasonable -- stark contrast to Cathy and Alan

Orient Photo and MS color are two shops I'd trust with their oral quote when I first enter their shops. MS color has a warmer service but OP people seems not as rush as MS. Both

For me I will go john 316 I believe thier is the best

have been to quite a no. of shops and this is my experience so far:

MS Color:
service and prices so far so good but depends on who you dealt with. Florence and Jackson are my favorite to deal with. But haven patronize them lately 'cause they seem to be running out of stock for the things that i wanted :dunno:

TK Photo:
service and prices are excellent. this is my favourite shop so far. give great service even if you are just asking for prices. the only bad thing is the opening hours.

Cathay Photo PP and MS:
wide variety of selection. service and prices depends on individual.

Alan Photo Funan:
like cathay photo, service and prices depends on individual and they seems to be only really keen to serve u if u are buying big items.

John 3:16:
Hardly go there nowadays coz its so damn crowded all the time. some of the younger staff dont seem to be updated on the prices as well; need to ask sam or some other senior guy. prices are not attractive either. service is good though.

Big thumbs down to this shop. I once bought a Lowepro Inverse 200 from them and asked for help but was only given one sentence answers for anything that I asked. Felt like I was buying from a departmental store in the sense that you pick what you want and pay up. Answers I received were extremely vague as well. Prices are ok though.

which guy you talk to? the young chap?

James? I never have this problem from them. i bought 2 TT bags and a lens and a tripod bag + some stuffs...on one occasion i went and tried a few TT bags with my gear...but never buy because 1)i also not sure.2)they don't think i shld buy now...

There were two rather elderly guys in the shop at that time. Didn't bother to stay and talk.

I bought quite a few things from TK Foto and no bad experiences from them so far.

Once I went there on a weekday non-peak hour to buy a Thinktank belt + pouches, and they not only allowed me to try it on, they also fixed up the exact pouches I wanted so I could walk around the shop to ensure I am happy with it. They also told me to squat down to make sure the pouches don't hit the floor. In the end, it took 45 mins of their time and they made only $135+ from me.

The other time I was at TK Foto was to buy a tripod. They explained to me the usage of the tripod, took out the aluminum and carbon ones for me to test, and tried on different heads (M3 vs M10), etc. It took about 1 hour but I was very satisfied with the service.

Same as Tachyon..i even better try 1 hour after they tell me don't buy since i not sure...no black face...some condemns the china man in OP but likewise i have no issue with them...they don't hardsell and no crappy accessories to add in..just leave me alone with 3 lens to try until i happy then pay up..

i guess everyone has the 'time of the month' and when we happen to be the one..the shop just seems lousy at the moment...then again those often quoted for bad service we must definitely be careful esp places like SLS...i don't like AP for one...a bit Ah Beng to me

Parisilk Holland gets my vote, not too sure why youll never mention them here, been a regular @ these store for camera equipment, got my 5d2 kit with 24-105mm f4L @ $5130 in Apr09, good service too
