Which prosumer for studio photography?

Hi

I'm looking to get a prosumer for product photography

This is primarily for my online shop which sells clothing. Hence the good people in this forum have recommended that i get a decent camera.

I will also be setting up a home studio with strobe kit.

I have very limited knowledge and experience with cameras. The only serious cam i've ever owned is my current Canon Isus 860 :bsmilie:

Budget wise i hope to keep it under $600 if possible. I don't need top of the line equipment. But the camera must be able to sync with the strobe and display colours well.

I'm open to all brands. Though i slightly more favourable towards Canon and Sony.

It would be good if the cam is an all rounder as well so that i can use it when i travel.

Would most appreciate your recommendations

Will a panasonic LX3 be able to do a good job?

as long as the camera has full manual function (can independently control shutter speed and apature) and a hotshoe ...... eg. G9, G10, G11, LX3 and the new Samsung Ex1 etc ...... out of this 3 the only one that is $600 or cheaper brand new is the Samsung........

Otherwise get a older generation (4-5 years ago model) 2nd hand DSLR with a zoom lens for about the same price (Eg EOS 350D or 400D with a kit lens with maybe even a cheap 2nd hand flash (maybe u dont need as u said u have a strobe) and a trigger/receiver thrown in should not cost more than $600 all-in )

If you're using radio triggers to fire your studio flash, check first for compatibility issues.

Some prosumers have issues with radio triggers, i.e., problems firing, or have severely limited shutter speeds with triggers.

well... i wont suggest strobekits for beginners. u will find it tough to operate i guess. i suggest a cheap second hand 30d, or 400d can do liao. kit lens

yes...... btw u just hanging the clothes on hanger or manniquin and taking pics or using a live model ?

I will mostly likely use both manniquin and live model

Just simple still shots. Even with a live model, the pics will just show from neck to knee. No face shots

Continuous lights will be easier on my pockets though

yes. cfl is must easier, cause u dun have to calcuate gn, compensate etc etc. perhaps pros can do so with flashmeters and the rest, but being the not so crazy me, i stuck with cfl. easy to shoot too.

get a 30d. its reliable:thumbsup:

Just make sure that the camera you choose has a hotshoe and a manual exposure mode.
