which Primes for Full body shot with gd bokeh?

One of the lens which i thought of for myself because of the versatile..
But if bokeh is the main concern, i think a lot of prime lens will win in coz of bigger aperature..

I think it depends on the focal length. 70-200 f2.8 IS at 100mm will create better bokeh than 50mm f1.4 I think. It also depends on the distance to the subject. I use both 70-200 f2.8 IS and 85mm f1.8, and I personally like the bokeh produced by the 70-200 better. But it's just me.

I'm pretty much inclined to the 135 L glass option will go test it over the weekend to see how far i need to stand.

i'm using 135 on a 5D for most of my portrait works and for a full body shots i need to stand roughly 5-7m +- away but depends on how much clearance you want your subject to have. on a crop body which is 216mm and have to stand even further than on a full frame.

i will prefer you getting 85 1.2 mk1 within your budget which is 136mm instead of 216mm unless you are doing more private portrait shoot than joining organised shoot as not many ppl "willing" to give way for you to shoot while the rest have to wait a while it's like driving along expressway whereby cars overtaking here and there + you might be getting lesser shots too compared to your 50mm

TS might want to consider Tokina 50-135mm F2.8 or Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 HSM lens. These lens are for cropped sensors. 50-135mm translate to 80-210mm F4 in FF equiv. shooting at tele-end wide open gives creamy bokeh.

That is why in organised shoot, I normally ask... is there a long lens (70mm and above) group? Else not much chance to use the 70-200F2.8IS... :(

Haha I always kena short range group despite request and most of the time are cars overtaking =) I never had a mid range group before =/ haha and I restrict myself to use only 135 and I don't use my 85 1.8 as the CA is bad and obvious

Correct me if im wrong...
I thought for full body shot, its quite safe to use large aperature even up to 1.8 or even 1.4?
I thought only headshot, its not wise to use until so big as it might be sharp at the focus point but the rest of the face might be blurr...

depends what type of shoot. When I shoot my family, I usually leave more background in. When I go for paid model shoot, the background is more diffused. For headshots, my background is always diffused.

One more comment. A zoom lens comes in useful outdoors where you cannot control the environment or where space is a constrain, eg you can't move your subject over the edge of a cliff.

The main use will be private model shoot 1:1. All other uses will be minority.
i didnt know there is a 85mm L 1.2 mk1 lens. What was the major weakness of this lens?

I think it is opposite.

7D + Ard F5.0 Bokeh = 5D + F2.8 Bokeh

Bro, I think this is not correct.

On FF, we need to move closer to the object thus (for the same aperture) the DOF is thinner.

Bro... imagine when I am shooting at 200mm on a crop, even worse. :(

Full body shot using 135mm on 1.6 body :D you need a megaphone to talk to your model!

Hand Signal... it work wonders in shoot. :bsmilie:

AF is slower by almost 1/2, do not support TTL-II, does not use sub wave spectrum coating hence more flares. Using the 1st version on a XXD body, the AF is amazing slow and reported the shut down 40D and older body due to the higher current drawn. AF speed is still the main problem for 85L unless you are using a 1 series body.

Thought I'd post some photos!

I think these were with 85mm...forgot what aperture I used on these, I'll check for you, but the my cable is at home and it doesn't work with Windows 7.

oh didnt know the limitations on a xxD body.. on my 5D1 the AF is still acceptable for me tho but thats depends on how others adapt to it =)

On a 1ds2 the AF is slightly faster than on 5D1 but not sure on 5D2 have any a difference or not :dunno:

The AF speed on 5D2 is the same on 5D. Not much or maybe no improvement on the 5D2 from the 5D. I can see the numbers turning on the distance guage on the 85L on a 5D2 while the number is blurred with speed on the 1D2N. Keep me wonder why Canon design the AF speed on the 85L by a large margine from the 1 series to 5 series and very slow on the XXD bodies.

oh ic.. haha well maybe they want to show the "big" difference between 5 and 1 series which is why 1D is popular among those sports photographer.. With these limitations, 85L is still a nice portrait lens to have but not as sharp as 135 at wide open.
