Hi,

I would like to upgrade my Sony P9 (4 mega Pixel) to Either Sony P10 or Canon IXUS 500.
Which one is good? :)

Canon IXUS 500 Or 400 will be better choice than P9 =) I don't really like how fast the Sony battery loses it's lifespan like no body's business. I own a P1 myself..not sure about canon's but I bet it will be better than Sony's.

Hi Karyinn,

How bout keeping the P9? and saving the $$$?... :)
Upgrading to a P10 is not much of a jump. Would choose the Ixus over the Sony though, Canon colours are good for consumer cams...just my 2 cts, happy choosing!

Hi, I'm very happy with my new Ixus500. It's very compact and the shots are great! ... Happy shopping :D

Actually, i quite like my P9 camera. I
s just that, i find that the colour is abit more towards yellowish.
I want to sell away my P9 leh...

Hi giraffed,

Can i know how much you buy the camera?

Now, i prefer to buy Canon IXUS500 :)

hello.. I paid $790 @ mscolor :bsmilie:

:o when u bought it??
The price drop?
Should i wait for 1 to 2 months time then buy?

Is that expensive? :dunno:
I got it about 2-3 weeks ago... suppose the price will drop if and when newer models come out..,

If that's with 5% GST included, it's cheap  ...I believe RRP is $899...

Yeah lutz.. it's incl of the gst. In fact, that was the best price i found... :)

Hi Karyinn, having owned both the P9 and the P10 before, i can tell you that I personally felt it was worth the upgrade. Colours on the P10 are nicer and richer, noise levels are less then the P9. Actually, the battery life of the P10 is better than the P9 as it uses the newer NP-FC11.

I had no experience with the Ixus 500, but i think it should be a good camera too since the Ixus 400 was a great camera.

Being a P9 user, i think you would be more used to using a P10 instead of a ixus. Add the fact that the sony P-series prices have dropped by alot, and the newer P100 and W1 that are going to be released in May is probably gonna push down prices of the P10 even further.

By the way, the P10 can be had for 600+ at SLS, and this price was from a quote i got in february.

Hi giraffed,

I heard that there will be promotion for Canon IXUS500 during May and there will be freebies.. i will wait for one more week then buy ^^..

Hi ricleo,

Yes, i think P10 is a good Camera too. During my Korea Trip last month. My friend lent me his P10. And the pictures is good compare to P9. But because P10 is already 1 yr old in the market. That's why i am considering take Canon Ixu500 which is just 1 month old.
The P100 and W1 which you mention.. is it the mini kind? :)

The P100 is a slimmer and smaller version of the P10, with more functions and ability to make manual adjustments to shutter speed and aperture size.

The W1 is a thicker version of the super slick T1 with more functions and ability to make manual adjustments to shutter speed and aperture size.

Wow.. they look cool....
is that mean W1 is much better then P100? hmmm thank you very much.. will try to stay patient and wait..

Do you know when will it out and how much is it? :p

Actually both cameras should perform similarly, as they use the exact same CCD sensors, 3x zoom Carl Zeis lens and so on. The P100 will be smaller and lighter, and uses the newest slim battery from the T1. The W1 offers slightly more control over shutter speeds, and if i remember correctly, the W1 seems to use AA batteries.

Price wise i'm not too sure

Huh .. AA batteries :(.. i dun like that..
I prefer lithium battery.

I wonder.. anyone try to buy camera from the internet ? The price in internet seem much cheaper thou :p ..
there stated US400 for P100... :).. how about the memory stick? Is it using memory pro?

I may be wrong about the AA batteries thing though, can't remember was it the W1 or just the P93 that used AA.

All the new sonys use MSPro :) The super small ones like the T1 and the coming T11 use the smaller MSduos, but they are "Pro" too in terms of capacity and read/write speeds.

Sony's list price will definitely be expensive. Shops in SLS will definitely be offeing them at cheaper prices.

I happen to have played with the DSC-P100 already. Friend happens to work in Sony. It has a blazing start-up time for a consumer cam. Lens kinda pops out when you turn it on.

Picture quality wise, it's pretty good. Colour balance is right on and saturation is pretty good. Features wise, I'm not too sure cuz didn't play with it all that long... But IMHO, a good camera... :)
